I recently ran across a cool children’s book on environmental issues and action, The Adventures of George Global, via a friend on Facebook. I’m a sucker for these — love them. I know that books like this one and information I received as a kid on environmental topics were a big part of what made me such a green freak as an adult. Additionally, such books are fun!
Who or what is George Global?
George Global is a sort of humanized globe that goes around cleaning up pollution, neighborhoods, schools, and so on. In the book, George explains that he’s actually not a globe at all but “the earth that stands up for itself when people are messing it up.” Well, that sounds more exciting. 😀
In the book, he and a boy named Bobby travel across space and time observing nature “in balance” and “out of balance.”
Book critic Karen McCarthy writes, “Although the illustrations are rather uninspired, this dynamic book presents an exciting escapade, and an important lesson in environmental stewardship without ever preaching. Readers will hope for more adventures of George Global and his pal.”
Check it out if you’ve got some little kids who you think could use a little green spirit (or even if you don’t). More info is available on the George Global website as well.
