All-Inclusive Christmas, Holiday, or Whatever Works, Greeting

our-family2.jpg

At a time in history that is so fraught with emotional, environmental and overall psychological stress, it only seems proper to wish everyone who reads this column the very best during these days of celebration.

My wife’s oldest son, Dave Mason, sent this greeting, in hopes of covering all the ideological and generational bases in one fell swoop. With his permission, Sally and I, and the whole family would like to join Dave in celebrating the season:

To All My Liberal Friends and Family:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2008, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

To My Conservative Friends and Family:

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Note: Dave’s the one in back, in the middle, the big guy.

I would like to consider using the photo of 12/21/07 (“Dave” and others) as part of a montage on the cover of an ebook titled: Stressed Family, Strong Family, a self-help book for families.
I can send more information on request.
    Thanks,

  2. I’m not sure whether to be happy for you or worried Dave. I’ve been receiving my usual 100+ Christmas cards this year (I travel a LOT). So far I’ve had cards from my jewish, arabic, muslim, Islamic, catholic, protestant, atheist, calvinist, buddhist and Lutheran friends. The only people I’ve ever noticed to have a problem with Christmas are those political people who cannot “remove the mote from their own eye” first. Sadly it seems you are amongst them.

On the other hand, I do have a sense of humour and if this is the case then well done 🙂

If not then… I’m worried for you 🙁
