URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Tell Your Senators to Support Family Farms

This is a special guest post by EatDrinkBetter editor Becky Striepe.

Food Democracy Now sent out an urgent alert yesterday regarding protecting family farms from catastrophic federal legislation:

The Senate just voted 74 Yes to 25 No in favor of the cloture vote. This means that S.510, aka The Food Modernization Act, will move forward in the Senate for a vote by the end of the week, possibly as soon as tomorrow. Even as the debate continues on the Senate floor, the forces of Big Ag are working behind the scenes to kill the Tester-Hagan Amendment and all provisions meant to protect small farmers.

Food Democracy Now is making it easy to call your Senators and ask them to support the amendment — they’ve got your Senators’ phone numbers and a talking script to work off of ready for you.

The final vote on this bill is expected to happen this week (yes, that would be today), so it’s urgent that we act now to support family farms!

My senators are Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson. When I spoke to their offices, they said that both Senators oppose S.510, and that Senator Isakson hasn’t commented on the amendments, but he voted no on cloture yesterday. What did your Senators’ offices say?
