If you are in Los Angeles and are up for some vital community activity and fresh ocean breezes, we received a press release of cleantech highlights being presented next week at the Port of Los Angeles. Details that follow include a series of clean air initiatives, including $26 million for electric vehicles:
“Mayor Garcetti and Port of Los Angeles will announce a series of clean air initiatives and clean technology deployments aimed at reducing emissions from the Southern California goods movement industry, further increasing community engagement in Port sustainability initiatives. These new clean air initiatives align with the Mayor’s recently announced Sustainable City pLAn that calls for increasing the percentage of port-related goods movement trips using zero-emission technologies.”
The Pasha Green Omni Terminal will officially launch at this event. A $26 million real-time demonstration project for zero- and near-zero emission technologies will be located there.
“Under this initiative, Los Angeles–based BYD will provide two electric trucks and two battery storage systems, which will charge the trucks during off-peak hours at the Port of LA. This will be BYD’s first demonstration of a truly zero-emission truck project in North America since even the power charging the electric truck batteries will be generated from solar and stored in battery systems until needed.”
Notables at this coming event will include Eric Garcetti, Mayor of Los Angeles; Gene Seroka, Executive Director, Port of Los Angeles; Judy Mitchell, Board member, California Air Resources Board; and Jeff Burgin, Senior Vice President, Pasha Stevedoring & Terminals L.P.
This event comes along with a tremendous push to revolutionize Los Angeles electricity, ridding it of outdated, poor choices for energy generation. The Mayor and supporters intend to transition Los Angeles to 100% renewable electricity.
