Warning: the commercial below is a locally produced commercial that doesn’t benefit from the high-quality graphics and production quality of nationwide commercials. Nonetheless, the commercial nails a few things in the messaging (better than many national-level commercials). One of the biggest benefits of electric cars for most consumers is surely the convenience of charging at home and not having to visit smelly (and expensive) gas stations. Part of that is the tremendous benefit of not having to spend a ton of money you can save by not having to fill up on expensive gasoline. This Chevy Volt commercial below nails both of these things. The only place in which I’d say it was lacking a bit (not counting the less-than-super quality of the video) is that it doesn’t place enough emphasis on how much fun the plug-in electric hybrid is to drive. But it’s certainly better than most electric car commercials.
“I can plug in to any outlet I choose.” That’s a great line, but would be super awesome if they actually showed her plugging into a normal outlet, which it seems most people don’t realize is possible.
“…I still have the power and quietness I deserve” was an okay line, but could have been much stronger. Something like: “I still have the tremendous power and silence an electric car offers.”
On the whole, good piece.
By the way, perhaps my favorite electric car commercial yet is this one highlighting the excellent acceleration benefit of electric cars:
