30 US Corporation Spent More on Lobbying than Taxes in 2011 (Elizabeth Warren on Jon Stewart Show)

The News: Elizabeth Warren was on The Daily Show with John Stewart last week discussing how 30 profitable U.S. corporations — including GE, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Verizon and Dupont — spent more money  on lobbying in 2011 than on taxes, and the fact that 29 of them paid no taxes at all in the past 3 years. Some even make money on the government!

Why this is important: Super-profitable corporations should pay their fair share to help improve, advance, and give back to society!

Opportunity for action: You can push for an important reform in Congress, the Stop Tax Havens Abuse Act, which “would end the gimmicks and save more than $100 billion a year by making all corporations play by the same rules,” according to PIRG. (House Speaker, believe it or not, hasn’t even called for a vote on this bill. Push him to do so.)
