I don’t know if it is going to make a big difference in the operation of one of the most infamous companies in the U.S., but it seems this large coal power company couldn’t do things much worse than they have been. Massey Energy Chairman and CEO, Don Blankenship, has announced he is retiring after 30 years with the company that has included a 2010 mine explosion killing 29 people (the worst coal mining accident in the U.S. since 1970), complete lack of compassion for dead miners friends and family, a staggering number of safety violations and disregard for safety regulations, plenty of labor conflicts, and numerous battles with federal regulators and environmentalists.
Massey Energy is the 4th-largest coal producer in the country in terms of energy.
