Brilliant Half Million Mile Wide Sun 'Whip' Seen From Space

Filmed by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory this new video shows a dramatic filament eruption that occurred on August 31st. Shot in the energy range of extreme ultraviolet light, the video shows a filament collapsing and exploding in brilliant style.

“The NOAA spaceweather prediction center estimates the resulting cloud of radiation reached the Earth on Sep. 3, and created only a minor to moderate geomagnetic storm.”
