Global Warming Effects and Causes: A Top 10 List

One of the biggest issues facing us right now is global warming. Its effects on animals and on agriculture are indeed frightening, and the effects on the human population are even scarier. The facts about global warming are often debated in politics and the media, but, unfortunately, even if we disagree about the causes, global warming effects are real, global, and measurable. The causes are mainly from us, the human race, and the effects on us will be severe.

Global Warming Effects and Causes: A Top 10 List

Global Warming Cause: Carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel burning power plants

1. Global Warming Cause: Carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel burning power plants

Our ever increasing addiction to electricity from coal burning power plants releases enormous amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. 40% of U.S. CO2 emissions come from electricity production, and burning coal accounts for 93% of emissions from the electric utility industry [EPA, pg. 10]. Every day, more electric gadgets flood the market, and without widespread alternative energy sources, we are highly dependent on burning coal for our personal and commercial electrical supply.

Global Warming Cause: Carbon dioxide emissions from burning gasoline for transportation

2. Global Warming Cause: Carbon dioxide emissions from burning gasoline for transportation

Our modern car culture and appetite for globally sourced goods is responsible for about 33% of emissions in the U.S. [EPA pg. 8] With our population growing at an alarming rate, the demand for more cars and consumer goods means that we are increasing the use of fossil fuels for transportation and manufacturing. Our consumption is outpacing our discoveries of ways to mitigate the effects, with no end in sight to our massive consumer culture.

Global Warming Cause: Methane emissions from animals, agriculture such as rice paddies, and from Arctic seabeds

3. Global Warming Cause: Methane emissions from animals, agriculture such as rice paddies, and from Arctic seabeds

Methane is another extremely potent greenhouse gas, ranking right behind CO2. When organic matter is broken down by bacteria under oxygen-starved conditions (anaerobic decomposition) as in rice paddies, methane is produced. The process also takes place in the intestines of herbivorous animals, and with the increase in the amount of concentrated livestock production, the levels of methane released into the atmosphere is increasing. Another source of methane is methane clathrate, a compound containing large amounts of methane trapped in the crystal structure of ice. As methane escapes from the Arctic seabed, the rate of global warming will increase significantly.

Global Warming Cause: Deforestation, especially tropical forests for wood, pulp, and farmland

4. Global Warming Cause: Deforestation, especially tropical forests for wood, pulp, and farmland

The use of forests for fuel (both wood and for charcoal) is one cause of deforestation, but in the first world, our appetite for wood and paper products, our consumption of livestock grazed on former forest land, and the use of tropical forest lands for commodities like palm oil plantations contributes to the mass deforestation of our world. Forests remove and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and this deforestation releases large amounts of carbon, as well as reducing the amount of carbon capture on the planet.

Global Warming Cause: Increase in usage of chemical fertilizers on croplands

5. Global Warming Cause: Increase in usage of chemical fertilizers on croplands

In the last half of the 20th century, the use of chemical fertilizers (as opposed to the historical use of animal manure) has risen dramatically. The high rate of application of nitrogen-rich fertilizers has effects on the heat storage of cropland (nitrogen oxides have 300 times more heat-trapping capacity per unit of volume than carbon dioxide) and the run-off of excess fertilizers creates ‘dead-zones’ in our oceans. In addition to these effects, high nitrate levels in groundwater due to over-fertilization are cause for concern for human health.

Global Warming Effect: Rise in sea levels worldwide

6. Global Warming Effect: Rise in sea levels worldwide

Scientists predict an increase in sea levels worldwide due to the melting of two massive ice sheets in Antarctica and Greenland, especially on the East coast of the U.S. However, many nations around the world will experience the effects of rising sea levels, which could displace millions of people. One nation, the Maldives, is already looking for a new home, thanks to rising sea levels.

Global Warming Effect: More killer storms

7. Global Warming Effect: More killer storms

The severity of storms such as hurricanes and cyclones is increasing, and research published in Nature found:

“Scientists have come up with the firmest evidence so far that global warming will significantly increase the intensity of the most extreme storms worldwide. The maximum wind speeds of the strongest tropical cyclones have increased significantly since 1981, according to research published in Nature this week. And the upward trend, thought to be driven by rising ocean temperatures, is unlikely to stop at any time soon.”

Global Warming Effect: Massive crop failures

8. Global Warming Effect: Massive crop failures

According to recent research, there is a 90% chance that 3 billion people worldwide will have to choose between moving their families to milder climes and going hungry due to climate change within 100 years. One of the main causes of this will be the spread of desertification, and its accompanying effects.

“Climate change is expected to have the most severe impact on water supplies. “Shortages in future are likely to threaten food production, reduce sanitation, hinder economic development and damage ecosystems. It causes more violent swings between floods and droughts.”” – Guardian: Global warming causes 300,000 deaths a year

Global Warming Effect: Widespread extinction of species

9. Global Warming Effect: Widespread extinction of species

According to research published in Nature, by 2050, rising temperatures could lead to the extinction of more than a million species. And because we can’t exist without a diverse population of species on Earth, this is scary news for humans.

This 6th mass extinction is really just a continuation of the holocene extinction which began at the end of the last ice age and has resulted in the extinction of nearly all of the Earth’s megafauna animals, largely as a result of human-expansion.

“Climate change now represents at least as great a threat to the number of species surviving on Earth as habitat-destruction and modification.” Chris Thomas, conservation biologist at the University of Leeds

Widespread species loss and lists of endangered species just keep growing. This is a concerning matter on many fronts.

Global Warming Effect: Disappearance of coral reefs

10. Global Warming Effect: Disappearance of coral reefs

A report on coral reefs from WWF says that in a worst case scenario, coral populations will collapse by 2100 due to increased temperatures and ocean acidification and its effects. The ‘bleaching’ of corals from small but prolonged rises in sea temperature is a severe danger for ocean ecosystems, and many other species in the oceans rely on coral reefs for their survival.

“Despite the oceans’s immensity — 71 per cent of the Earth’s surface with an average depth of almost 4km (2½m) — there are indications that it is approaching its tipping point. For reefs, warming waters and acidification are closing in like a pair of jaws that threaten to make them the first global ecosystem to disappear.” – Times Online: 21st-century Noah’s Ark needed to save coral reefs from extinction

Volcanoes are a big cause of CO2 as well correct?

Growing Cannabis everywhere for fuel, food, clothes, and building supplies, is probably a good start.

if someone else is in the market for an SUV, they will find one — whether it’s yours or someone else’s.

  5. If I sell my SUV and buy a fuel efficient car, my SUV will still be driven by someone. How does that help global warming?

the cheapest way to control the GlobalWarming is reduce the demsnds of reservoirs by contoling – reducing the Human population , we can do it just like China, Iran Bangladesh and now in India, promote them to do it ,,,,,we can do it.

  9. Methane ranks “right behind CO2”? You might want to check your science on that. Methane is many times more efficient at trapping heat than C02. If you can’t get the most basic facts straight, the rest of your article is highly suspect. It’s the details that will get’cha every time. Nice try, though

  10. stop saying rubbish…. 3rd world countries over breeding is their own socio-economic problem. there part in global warming is like a drop in ocean.. in many aspects 3rd worlder’s are far better than so called great countries of US and europian union.
percapita fuel consumpion, use of chemical fertilizers, total number of cars, per capita steel consumption, per capita electricity consumption, number of thermal power plants….. in all the above mentioned.. US and many developed countries are in leading. for your kind information……hugely populated countries “china and India” are no where near to US in total emissions(not per capita)..
    for top GHG emitters… http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2011/apr/21/countries-responsible-climate-change

  11. One thing that causes by global warming is electricity pollution and it is very likely caused by mankind.

  12. i like your comment soy tu otro yo, but you kill vegetables all the time!, you can not live without damaging other creatures, unfourtunatelly, this is the real world! f.e. you know that exist records of vegetables criying when they are cut?

  13. We are treating the earth the same way we are treating each other , when are we going to learn ?
We can not possess the earth , we believe that we the humans have the power to cut trees, to kill living creatures , to buy and sell everything for pleasure in order to complete an empty space that will be empy forever if we do not find the real purpose in this reality .
This will change when we start looking ourselves , feeling our souls , our energy .We are here for a reason and i m not talking about God , this is not about religion , this is about future . The future is in our hands , in our minds , in our actions , thoughts , beliefs .
The change is coming , people is waking up from a large and confusing dream , dont be afraid . It wont be easy but light will join us at the end .

    Sorry for my english …

    Peace <3!!

  14. Florence Eaise

OK so now we all know whats causing global warming , the real question is how many of you are willing to change? Im ready!! Please join me for all our sakes!

    1. yeh i am going to change gonna to get a bigger car a gas guzzler start using my coal fire again and use the dirtiest coal i can find and forget that recycling rubbish i am going to have a huge carbon foot print so you know where you can stick you global warming right up your a**e

        1. Icetrout- You’re obviously a very mad, ignorant, strange soul by making such absorb comments. You need to get a therapist ASAP otherwise you’re gonna go more physco by the min. p.s. this is are facts don’t take it personal.

    2. Am a student and this website helped me a lot during my research about the causes and the effects of global warming. I have known now and I will also help those who are not aware of all the causes and the dangerous effects of global warming. Lets RESPECT our environment.

  15. this article is the same old rubbish preached by doom and gloom global warming activists. planet earth heats up and cools down through natural cycles and it been doing so for millions of years man plays no part in this cycle so to say man is causing global warming is an outright lie in fact the global temp has not risen in the last 10 years they also say the sea ice is melting yes that normaly happens in the summer months then refreezes in the winter its all a huge lie seized on by so called climate researchers looking for the big grants and governments using it as an excuse to pile on more taxes on to hard working people .

    1. 1. “Climate reacts to whatever forces it to change at the time; humans are now the dominant forcing.”: http://www.skepticalscience.com/climate-change-little-ice-age-medieval-warm-period.htm

It’s clear beyond a doubt that humans are causing the warming: http://planetsave.com/2012/01/19/what-is-causing-global-warming/

      2. The issue isn’t that sea ice is melting in summer. It’s that LAND ice is melting. http://www.skepticalscience.com/antarctica-gaining-ice.htm

Even oil companies and shipping companies and entire countries are now putting money into plans and investments based on the likelihood that the North Pole will be completely ice-free in summertime in the future. You think they’d be doing that if the science weren’t clear?

    2. Your right the earth’s temperatures have been rising and falling for millions of years. And the idea that the world’s not going to be around if this happens is just silly, not that you said this, but that’s the idea you hear often. What is not silly though is the idea that this earth can at any time shake us off itself at anytime it wants to. Like a dog shaking bugs off of him. We have the job to make sure to not get shacked off. We do not want to be the dianosurs, or any other spiices in that millions of years of existence that are now not here. It’s our job to make sure we take care of this earth so it’s not our fault that our existence does not continue. there are very logical explanations on how global warming is real, but even if you don’t believe, why not just take care of earth. Why take the chance that global warming is not real? Why add to the millions of years of temperature change with the idea that we could be helping in this change?

  16. Mindbender:

co2 only lags temp is a load of crock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nrvrkVBt24&feature=player_embedded

co2 hasn’t always preceded warming (other things can), but it amplified warming in those situations:

    http://www.skepticalscience.com/Why-does-CO2-lag-temperature.html

    http://www.skepticalscience.com/co2-lags-temperature.htm

in the current warming though, it’s clear humans burning fossil fuels and creating co2 is the #1 issue:

  17. AntonioSosa: climate change and global warming are two separate things and have been in the scientific literature for about the same amount of time — climate change even longer, actually. ALSO, the side that tried to push “climate change” instead of “global warming” in the discourse was the Conservative deniers (the GOP)! Wake up, dude.

  18. Tracy, it’s good that you know more than nearly every overarching scientific body in the world. I’m sure the Nobel laureates sitting on all those boards are ignorant and confirm the work of thousands of climate scientists because of some inability to evaluate science, right? At least we’ve got you! (And FOX News.) Should we also be careful not to fall off the edge of our flat Earth?

  19. Um, no, Medieval Warm period is understood —
http://www.skepticalscience.com/medieval-warm-period.htm. It was a warm region, not a warm planet. Look into the science.

There is a tremendous scientific consensus on global warming — look into it.

  20. 1- it’s not all false. (if your teacher really thinks so, perhaps you go to a completely screwed up school?) 2- if you got an F, and you’re not just a troll, i imagine it had to do with something else.

  21. We should be installing a ton more clean energy (many people and countries are — record solar installations in the US this quarter), cutting our driving of fossil-fuel-powered vehicles (do it!), and eating less meat (go for it!). 😀

    1. of course….
the gravity of the earth is weak to pull the sun
so gravity has nothing to do with global warming

  22. Hi there, thanks a lot for this great website!

Have you ever had a burning question / theory about global warming and human behaviour? For a University project, I would like to find out why people don’t save our planet and how we can motivate people to be more environmental friendly, respectively.
I am sure you have asked yourself many questions in that context so I thought I should ask you as specialists in this field:
Have you got an idea that I could look into scientifically? Any theories that you’d like to be proven? Things that a “lie detector” or a brain scan could discover? Maybe we could find an answer together!
Please let me know your thoughts!
    Thank you!!

    1. Hello, thanks. I did a survey on environmental concerns and actions for my Bachelor’s thesis — it was an interesting process.

At this point, I think what we need more than anything is a LOT more direct action, and a lot more climate hawks running for office. Anything to help that along would be useful. Maybe try to find out if people have been involved in those things; what they think would get them involved; if they have already gotten involved in those things, WHAT got them involved…

  23. as a citizen of the world i truely hope the U.S.A. turns to solar, geothermal and windmills as our source of electric ! good deal mayor ballard got re-elected as indianapolis has some 60 mile of bike route thru indy. people should have listened to president jimmy carter after he installed solar panels on the white house.LORD bless planet earth always and guide all nations towards a solution on behalf of all inhabitants of planet earth amen.

  24. i think the cause of global warming is the trash we throw out do you know that the fums and STANK of our garbage is also poluting our air and probably twice as bad as the plantations!!!

  25. It is not all destruction there will be the creation of new species over this time period. The big unknown is whether any one will have the capacity to dominate humankind …

  26. this is a great website.. thnaks for the information.. even though i already know all about the effects and cause, i’m still glad i can read the details and the pictures help the evidence 🙂 this planet does need to be greener.. more people should care about this…

  27. Do you have an article or information about what can be done to mitigate climate change governmentally or intergovernmentally?

  28. what can i do to help in educating other people in reducing the effects of global warming. it is saddening to see people doing this which are causing this, even the government does nothing. we need to do something to help this devastating condition and the life of future generations.

  29. @James Dowd:

Thank you for the invitation to educate people about the role of water vapor in the climate system.

“Water vapour is the most dominant greenhouse gas. Water vapour is also the dominant positive feedback in our climate system and amplifies any warming caused by changes in atmospheric CO2. This positive feedback is why climate is so sensitive to CO2 warming.”

Source: “Water vapor is the most powerful greenhouse gas,” Intermediate version by John Cook, Skeptical Science, June 26, 2010

To access the detailed rebuttal and a video, go to:

    http://www.skepticalscience.com/water-vapor-greenhouse-gas-intermediate.htm

  30. @James Dowd:

Your assertion that CO2 is an “insignificant” greenhouse gas is patently wrong!

“The amount of warming caused by the anthropogenic increase in atmospheric CO2 may be one of the most misunderstood subjects in climate science. Many people think the anthropogenic warming can’t be quantified, many others think it must be an insignificant amount. However, climate scientists have indeed quantified the anthropogenic contribution to global warming using empirical observations and fundamental physical equations.”

Source: “How do we know more CO2 is causing warming?”, Advanced version, Skeptical Science, Sep 9, 2010

    http://www.skepticalscience.com/empirical-evidence-for-co2-enhanced-greenhouse-effect-advanced.htm

  31. It is and has been long known that CO2 IS a GHG, but its role is very minor in its ability to significantly affect the Earth’s climate. Why back the idea that the people of Earth must find(too often some ridiculous) ways to mitigate the emission of CO2, to find and spend billions on the sequestering of a common gas that will do little except put thousands (millions?) to work on a project that will, in effect, be worthless?
Truth is, using real science, that CO2 is an INSIGNIFICANT greenhouse gas. Yes, it can absorb electromagnetic waves and convert their energy to heat(longer waves), but even doubling or even quadrupling the current quantity of CO2 would NOT significantly change global temperatures. Currently CO2 is responsible for about 0.12% of the greenhouse gas effect.
Current evidence shows the combined greenhouse contributions of CO2, methane, N2O and other miscellaneous gases are small compared to WATER VAPOR!
Total atmospheric carbon dioxide, both anthropogenic and natural, is only about 3.6% of the overall greenhouse effect; a big difference from the 72.3% figure ignoring water!
Water vapor, the most significant greenhouse gas, comes from natural sources and is responsible for roughly 95% of the greenhouse effect. Among climatologists this is common knowledge but among special interests groups, certain governmental groups, and news reporters this fact is under-emphasized or just ignored altogether.
Conceding that it might be “a little misleading” to leave water vapor out, they nonetheless defend the practice by stating that it is “customary” to do so!
My concern is that both uninformed government and uninformed special interest groups will spew misinformation about known and important science facts. Please direct your well-intended efforts in a direction that will educate the uninformed rather than confuse.

    1. James: I’m sorry, but the world’s leading scientists on this subject disagree with you. They take many factors into consideration and have proven to the overarching scientific community that CO2 is causing global warming and is a significant concern.

  32. I do really believed that global warming will happen and it is now starting like for instance the flood in Australia. We can now feel the revenge of the nature, where human causes itself. This is really bad for us,we cannot escape the reality that human did in the environment.I hope the leaders all over the country would find ways on how to take actions regarding this matter.

  33. You kids should quit fooling around on the computer and get back to your homework. You can relax about global warming. CO2 makes up less than four parts in 10,000 in our atmosphere. Do you really think raising it from 3.6 to 3.8 parts in 10,000 is going to doom us all to an ugly death? Also, 1 million species extinct in 40 years?? Give your head a shake. The current estimate for the number of animal species on earth ranges between 3 and 30 million. (Erwin 1983, Wolosz 1988). With that much uncertainty about even the simple question of how many animals are there, how good do you think that prediction is?

  34. This is a big problem for many of the plants, animals, and people on islands. This would be called a break in the food chain, or a chain reaction, one thing happening that leads to another and so on.One thing that causes global warming is electrical pollution. Electricity causes pollution in many ways, some worse than others.

  35. hey guys
ummmmm dont ya think global warming is soooo fritning coz i do
i used this website for my homework for notes on global warming and they were extremly good. i feel awfel for the poor animals, they dont deserve to die.
i really hope people realise how severe global warming is becoming and people will help to stop it!!!!

    1. Global warming isnt about god or any other type of religion! i dont care if you believe it or not but its happening and no matter you a good or bad person it will effect all of us!! So just do simple things to help stop or slow down the effects of global warming cause i dont want to die because you think this is gods work. Global warming is real and it IS happening.

  36. Tell what global warming HAS done AND what predictions that were made in 2000 that HAS happened. I see may predictions that did not come to pass. I deal with facts not predictions.

Where is the Sun in your list of causes ? Other planets in our solar system are also experiencing stronger storms and changes, and our probes did not cause that.

    1. we are in the middle of the deepest solar minimum in a long time. if we were not, the effects we are seeing would be even stronger. & i’m sorry if you get your information from unreliable sources, but the world climate scientists predicted back in 2000 is very clearly what we are seeing nowadays, just a little ahead of schedule..

    2. The sun couldn’t possibly be the cause of keeping the world temperature above average for so long. (310 consecutive months now) If it were the sun, all those satellites that measure solar irradiance would very easily detect it.

As for what global warming has done (and is doing) just read NOAA’s “Global Hazards” report each month. They read like a Stephen King book these days. Israel had their largest forest fire ever in December and for the first time in it’s 96 year history, the Panama Canal had to close, due to weather conditions. Earlier in 2010, 20 million were affected by floods in Pakistan and Russia had to orchestrate emergency transports of nuclear fuels & missiles, due to the six-hundred, out-of-control fires they were experiencing. The flood in Australia is the size of Germany & France combined. Disease is thriving better in the tropics.

      See the film “Earth 2100”

  37. every continents and countries are involved in this great matter of fact so all of them should help eachothere without mentioning politics and theur nationality because if the earth destroy all of others are injured

  38. Everyone needs to be involved not just people wealthy enough to take advantage of large tax rebates. I believe that around 38to50% of the USA population does not meet the income level where income tax is required. Motivation needs to be valuable to EVERYONE
    Thanks

  39. someone should do something about factories and pollution because that is what makes animals extinct and coral reefs to disappear.

    am i right?

    1. We the people can not ‘control’ the climate of our planet. We can not even control the local weather, much less the global climate. You over estimate the impact and capability of the human species on our planet. Yes we cause localized changes, but globally ?

      1. um………… have faith in the lord he knows what is best for us.we need to stop global warming……

        are u with..

        YEAH

        i cant hear u…

        YEAH

u got it….. GO TEAM SPIRIT.

        WWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  40. I agree whatever you wrote here and it is really scary and all we do just this about how make more money, how to abuse, be selfish and just talk time to times about GOD, we will destroy the earth sooner than anybody thinks, I am a executive chief designer of company work on green products in energy, I design the next generation of lights and hope be in the market by end of 2010,I try to plant 10 trees every year, any where I am ,no matter where just do, if all of us be only 5% real, believe me we make the earth like heaven( earth is gods heaven)God help us.

  41. I completely agree, we need to take drastic action in order to save this plaent and stop global warming.

    1. We should be installing a ton more clean energy (many people and countries are — record solar installations in the US this quarter), cutting our driving of fossil-fuel-powered vehicles (do it!), and eating less meat (go for it!). 😀

  42. Couldn’t the fact that we are standing on 50 gazillion square miles of molten lava possibly have something to do with global warming. Also, could I get one global warming “expert” to stand on the shore and tell me “this is where the elevation of the ocean is supposed to be.” Obviously if they are stating that ocean levels are rising, then they would be able to say if they are receading and base it on a line in the sand. Arguement also goes for glaciers. Exactly how many square miles of glaciers are we supposed to have. Seems it would take a rather large ego.

  43. How come no one mentions global warming during winter?

Did global warming cause record cold weather in Florida, Dc and Europe?

    1. Yes, it did. More extreme weather events. Also, the Arctic winds have gone bi-polar (North-To-South) instead of their natural tri-polar wind-circulation that has been in effect for thousands of years. So now that cold Arctic air is being pushed south (which at the same times allows warm air to enter the Arctic and increase the melt speed). As the IPCC has said: you should see increasing numbers of ALL kinds of extreme weather events (like those you speak of), along with more flooding, more droughts, more fires, rising temps, food production declining, rising sea levels, etc. And all of those things are coming true, just as predicted by climatologists.

The skeptics have yet to offer an alternative explanation for everything we’re seeing. Apparently they believe that some mysterious unseen force more powerful than the combined might of almost 7 billion people is the culprit. And yet, they cannot name that culprit, or point to it, or provide any evidence that such a culprit even exists. That’s why no one takes them seriously except the easily misled and the uneducated (and Big Oil and Big Coal, obviously, which fund the ‘skeptic movement’, such as it is).

  44. ang globalwarming ay masama at mabuti ang idudlot sa tao kaya lang kailangan magtulungan ng tao upang malabanan po ito

  46. soina you are an idiot to believe this scam. All this guy is trying to do is get you to believe that global warming is real AND a real problem.
also marco cut the crap. global warming is not a myth and as stated above it is also not real. however there is some truth behind the blog.

  47. this is all a myth maybe if this guy had a stonger argument and better info to suppport his ideas then maybe just maybe ill chnage my mind but with the bulls**** he wrote it just sounds like hes finding any excuse to prove global warming is real P.S. DONT YOU KNOW IM LOCO

    1. 1- it’s not all false. (if your teacher really thinks so, perhaps you go to a completely screwed up school?) 2- if you got an F, and you’re not just a troll, i imagine it had to do with something else.

  48. This is soo true. Human activities are playing a massive role in the contamination of our planet, which results in global warming.
Desperate measures are to be taken for the betterment of our world, its indeed our fault and we SHOULD fix it.
WAKE UP PEOPLE BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!

  49. Global warming is really bad! I think that I would not like it if it was hot in Winter and Fall and cold in Spring & Summer! That would be really wired!

  50. Global warming is really bad! There are a lot of effects and I really hate if it is hot in Winter! That would mean cold in Summer! That’s really wired!

  51. How aboutwe actullay get off our butts and save the world we live.we treat the earth as if it was a toilet while has gives us this beautiful sight to see and air to breath and a place to live.we shouldnt just clean it up to live we should clean it to restore the beauty it once had.the way we pollute our plant is the way we pollute our body with harmful foods and toxions.we dont deserve this beautiful place just like we dont deserve most the items we own.so dnt wast ur time trying to say i am all for saving the earth if your going to say you think this is cool u need to grow up realize that u never cared b4 so dnt just say its cool go do sumthing about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This is more important than have the crap we see on the news
GOD sum humans dnt deserve to live bc we r so ungrateful i swear!!!

  52. A major problem Global Warming enthusiasts can’t overcome is the existence of the Mediavel Warm Period and the Roman Warm Period. They are not in dispute, and there were (as far as I know) no Suv’s or coal fired plants thousands of years ago. It is up to the AGW group to prove that AGW is factual, and not the responsibility of the global warming realists to prove it is not. The theory is not at all “settled” and anyone who says it is is not interested in science as much as they are interested in political consencus. If the INTERGOVERNMENTAL part of IPCC doesn’t concern people they are not paying attention.

    1. Um, no, Medieval Warm period is understood —
http://www.skepticalscience.com/medieval-warm-period.htm. It was a warm region, not a warm planet. Look into the science.

There is a tremendous scientific consensus on global warming — look into it.

      http://planetsave.com/2011/10/28/yes-global-warming-is-real-and-caused-by-humans/

Governments working together should worry us? I’m sorry, but all the governments of the world getting together to address a problem facing the world is a GOOD thing. Wake up, dude, please..

  53. So temperature is rising and end of the world is near.
Normal, the world must end sometime; actually everything has an end and we are doomed to keep on destroying. The best way to help this temporary planet is of course to reduce its population by 90% which is unfeasible at this moment. The end could be slow self-inflicted (wars , global warming…), or fast like a comet crashing in for example.
The only thing that amazes me is this quick extrapolation and jumping-on-conclusions that everybody is expert at. We live say 80 years, yet, we want to guess what happens in 10000 years (search for immortality). We care about our children, our siblings and so forth , but why would we worry about what happens 100 generations later. What the hell do we know whether we have a global warming, freezing or spinning. We are just a very small dust lost somewhere in this universe and we cannot escape our destiny which exonerably will be the end of our specie and our world.
The only hope we have is the Message of Christ. If it is true then there is salvation , and if it isn’t then eternal void and obscurity will prevail.
So let us ride this planet and travel towards our unavoidable fate.

  54. Hey, our english teacher made us read this, and I have to say the debate is way better than the article itself. Thanks y’all.

  55. force avec virtue

youre all idiots and should try to do something about global warming and its effects instead of arguing with a complete stranger about it on your computer

  56. Mindbender, you are, to use your own colorful phrase, an idiot.

Just because CO2 played a feedback role in reinforcing previous warmings doesn’t mean it isn’t playing a lead role today. Do you really question the over-100-years of established science that shows that CO2 is a greenhouse gas? Are you not aware that we have dumped hundreds of billions of additional CO2 into the atmosphere? Can you not put two and two together?

There has been no cooling over any significant interval. The slowing of the rate of increase in global warming recently is exactly because China has so many dirty coal plants, the particulates (called aerosols) are playing the well studied role of reflecting light back into space.

You seem to be just blindly repeating lies and distortions from denialist sites. Good luck with that.

Your reasoning is approximately that of someone ridiculing the “theory” that temperatures increase from winter to summer because of a cold front that cooled things down for a few days.

  57. Man made global warming is a myth and it cracks me up to hear people try to spew out yellow science to try to prove.

It reminds me of when holy rollers try to tell me that the earth is only 6,000 years old and man walked with dinosaurs.

Here’s a proven fact : Despite co2 emissions worldwide going up over the last 5 years, the average temp of the planet has cooled off slightly.

More co2 and the earth got colder.

    Truth hurts.

    1. Tracy, it’s good that you know more than nearly every overarching scientific body in the world. I’m sure the Nobel laureates sitting on all those boards are ignorant and confirm the work of thousands of climate scientists because of some inability to evaluate science, right? At least we’ve got you! (And FOX News.) Should we also be careful not to fall off the edge of our flat Earth?

the 13 hottest years on record were in the last 15 years — Fact.

  58. Portia Manlapaz Mendez

I recommend this article to be included in the curriculum for the young ones to have awareness,to save mother earth. This is very helpful, thanks a lot for posting this article. May the good Lord bless the author and his family. Keep it up and more power.

  59. Europeans and others are hoping for U.S. leadership in debunking the global warming/climate change hoax, which has already hurt many people. At the third International Conference on Climate Change in Washington, DC, a few days ago, where top world scientists and economists spoke against the global warming hoax, Lord Christopher Monckton, former science advisor to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, said it was up to us, Americans, to save the world from the hoax. He said:

“… the highly placed conspirators who seek to ride the climate scare to world domination have reckoned without one thing. You. You are here, and you will not let the truth go.

“Thanks to you, it is becoming evident that the rent-seeking promoters of this great boondoggle, through the very scientific ignorance that they had sought to exploit in others, have merely deluded themselves.

“In the end, it will be here, in the United States, that the truth will first emerge. … Not in Europe, for we are no longer free. … It is here, in this great nation founded upon liberty, that the battle for the world’s freedom will be won.” http://thesop.org/index.php?article=16477

  60. You are right on target, Eve!

Man-made climate change is a ridiculous hoax. Even the words “climate change” — chosen to continue fooling people after everyone realized the earth was not warming — are ridiculous. By its very nature, climate changes.

And it’s even more ridiculous to claim that humans are responsible for climate change! It’s like saying “Wet Rain” and then blaming humans for rain being wet! We can’t stop climate from changing any more than we can stop rain from being wet.

As far as humans causing global warming and climate change, that is now scientific consensus. http://planetsave.com/2011/10/28/yes-global-warming-is-real-and-caused-by-humans/

  61. Ok John, if you truly believe that your use of fossil fuels is destroying the planet, why are you on the computer? Where do you get your electricity to be on it? I suggest that all people who feel this way should get off the electricity grid, make their own electricity if they can and stop using gasoline and heating fuel. You must live the life you are suggesting to others. And you must do it first. As to Charlie, the reason not to make errors is because this country will not be habitable without heat. Try it!

  62. Simply, “progress”, so-called, is destroying the earth(land, air, water, vegetation, creatures) and perverting that which is Spirit(Light, Life, Truth, Love, Peace, Hope, Grace, Miracles, Faith, etc.) ;-(

Postings have been made at TheDestructionOfTheEarth.Wordpress.com concerning such destruction and perversion and also concerning The Creator’s(G-D, Father) promise that HE will “destroy those who destroy the earth(HIS Creation)!” (Rev11:18c)

Yet there is a Living, Lively Hope!

However, such Hope is not for that which is of the earth, earthly and fleshly, but there is a Living, Lively Hope for that which is Spirit, Heavenly and Spiritual.

Hope for that which is Spirit is Alive because “progress”, which is the product of mankind’s “imag”ination, can pervert, yet not destroy that which is Spirit! For that which is Spirit is Real, and that which is Real is Forever!

So no matter how perverse this world’s systems of religion become, that which is Spirit can only be abused and perverted, not destroyed!

That which is Spirit is Eternal…….

As for that which is called “religion”.

“Pure religion and undefiled before G-D The Father(Creator) is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself uncontaminated by the world.” (James 1:27)

Simply, every other religion is impure and defiled!

    As stated previously, “that which is called “”progress” is of mankind’s “imag”ination and can pervert, yet not destroy, that which is Spirit”, and so it is that this world, and it’s systems of religion, have their version of “Light”, which can be turned on and off;

    Their version of “Truth”, which is of the “imag”ination;

    Their version of “Love”, which should be called lust;

    Their version of “Peace”, which needs be enforced;

    Their version of “Hope”, which is but a desire for temporal “things”;

    Their version of “Faith”, which is powerless;

    Their version of “Grace”, which is the liberty to “do your own thing”;

And sadly, the favorite color of this world’s religion is gray ;-(

So come out of the shadows! And as is said by many, “Get Real”!

Once again, “only that which is Spirit is Real, and only that which is Real is Forever”!

Hope is there would be those who “see” that The Life is in and of The Spirit. Those who “see” will no longer have their portion with the multitudes who are destroying the earth(and, air, water, creatures, vegetation) and perverting that which is Spirit(Light, Life, Truth, Love, Peace, Hope, Faith, Grace, etc.) ;-(

Simply, each breath(Spirit) you take is a revelation of The Source of Life.

And “A Simple and Spiritual Life is the only Life that will survive!”

    Forever…….

So “set your affections on Heavenly things” and be not of those “whose god is their bellies because they mind earthly things”. Be not of those who “love this world and it’s things” and who are “progress”ively destroying the earth(land, air, water, vegetation, creatures) and perverting that which is Spirit(Light, Life, Truth, Love, Peace, Hope, Faith, Grace, etc.)…….

Peace, in spite of the dis-ease(no-peace) that is of this world and it’s systems of religion, for “The WHOLE world is under the control of the evil one” (1John5:19) indeed and Truth…….

    Truth is never ending……. TheDestructionOfTheEarth.Wordpress.Com

  63. John Furr you are the idiot. There is a correlation with co2 and global temp. But c02 lags behide temp by 600-800 years clearly showing that c02 is not the driving force of temp but the exact opposite. That’s what part of the debate is about.

If c02 is driving temp, why has the average temp been declining since 2002, while china and india have increased there c02 output.

The debate is how can taxes on carbon help clean up chemical spills, garbage sites, or stop humans from cutting down the jungle?

    1. Mindbender:

co2 only lags temp is a load of crock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nrvrkVBt24&feature=player_embedded

co2 hasn’t always preceded warming (other things can), but it amplified warming in those situations:

      http://www.skepticalscience.com/Why-does-CO2-lag-temperature.html

      http://www.skepticalscience.com/co2-lags-temperature.htm

in the current warming though, it’s clear humans burning fossil fuels and creating co2 is the #1 issue:

Play funny with statistics all you want, the 13 hottest years on record were in the last 15 years: http://www.wmo.int/pages/mediacentre/press_releases/pr_935_en.html

  64. AntonioSosa you are an idiot. Good lord why can’t you people look past your own puny little life spans.

Global warming is real. We can debate the human impacts all we want, but what we can’t debate is the raw data…the numbers that show a DIRECT correlation of CO2 and global average temperature. We know for certain that we are increasing the levels of CO2…we know for certain that CO2 and temperature are highly correlated…

SO WHAT’s the debate about. let’s get on with trying everything in our power to fix this problem. This is the earth we are talking about people. This is a joke or a game. This is very very real. This is the future of the planet and future generations that we are screwing over with our inability to act on this issue.

  65. Excellent arguments, Eve! No informed American believes the global warming/cap-and-trade scam. The scammers, however, continue trying to force us to swallow the scam.

Among those expecting to profit from the scam at our expense are Obama, Gore, Soros, Goldman Sachs, Obama’s Chicago Climate Exchange friends, GE, the U.N., etc.

GE, for example, has bombarded us with daily propaganda — through its NBC networks, including MSNBC and CNBC. Why? Because they stand to make BILLIONS from the scam at our expense. Not only is GE the largest wind turbine generator maker, but it may benefit as the sole “secondary market” trader of the cap and trade credits.

And the U.N., the most corrupt organization in the world, is desperate to complete the scam to get more of our money and help dictate what we should and should not do.

  66. Our greatest threat is not global warming but Obama’s global warming/cap and trade scam, more fraudulent than any Nigerian scam.

Cap and trade represents huge taxes and cost increases, which will hurt mostly the poor and the middle class. Cap and trade will give dictatorial powers to Obama and will further enrich his billionaire friends (Gore, Soros, Goldman Sachs, Obama’s Chicago Climate Exchange friends, GE, etc.) — all at our expense and at the expense of our children and grandchildren.

Cap and Trade “would be the equivalent of an atomic bomb directed at the U.S. economy—all without any scientific justification,” said famed climatologist Dr. S. Fred Singer. It would significantly increase taxes and the cost of energy, forcing many companies to close, thus increasing unemployment, poverty and dependence.

Those brainwashed to the point of wanting to destroy the economy to “prevent global warming” are behaving like the most primitive human beings who were duped into believing that human sacrifices would ensure them good weather. Human beings don’t have the power to control climate! And killing the economy will not help the environment. Poor countries can’t protect the environment. Just look at Haiti!

More and more scientists and thinking people all over the world are realizing that man-made global warming is a hoax that threatens our future and the future of our children. More than 700 international scientists dissent over man-made global warming claims. They are now more than 13 times the number of UN scientists (52) who authored the media-hyped IPCC 2007 Summary for Policymakers. http://www.climatechangefraud.com/content/view/3562/218/

Additionally, more than 30,000 American scientists have signed onto a petition that states, “There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate.” http://www.petitionproject.org

We pray that honest leaders – both Democrat and Republican – are able to save us from Obama’s criminal global warming/cap-and-trade scam.

  67. Charlie Sommers

If we are going to make errors let’s make them on the side of caution. All of the things listed above will make the world a better place to live whether or not they are causing global warming.

  68. Derek, I think you would appreciate the recent Newsy video about global warming. It doesn’t go as in-depth as you do, but it’s all about the moral obligation we have to fight climate change.

Now, personally I don’t think it’s a moral issue any more than, say, world hunger is a moral issue. There’s only so much anyone can do. Tried putting a planet’s climates in equilibrium recently? It’s not easy even if you could simply generate or remove heat or create species out of thin air. How is a divided world of science going to do anything about it? We can take small steps, but that will never be enough just like we can donate a million dollars a month to stop world hunger without actually solving a long-term problem.

  69. Global Warming Effects and Causes

1 and 2 are the same. The hypothesis is that doubling of the Co2 in the atmosphere will cause an increase of 1.6 degrees C. We are halfway to doubling the Co2 but we have only seen a warming of .4 C. That is taking the warming since the last cooling spell. It is unknown if that warming is due to Co2.

    3. Methane. I have seen no hypothesis on the warming ability of Methane. Is there one?

    4. Deforestation. I agree, that is a problem. Unkown if will warm or cool the earth. Are you going to fix that because of the top 4, that is the only one fixable, maybe.

    5. Is there a hypothesis on the global warming ability of fertilizer?

    6. Sea level rise. From 15,000 years ago to 8,000 years ago, sea level rose about 14mm/year – which is more than four times faster than the current rise rate of 3.3mm/year, as reported by the University of Colorado. During the last ice age, sea level was so low that people were able to walk from Siberia to Alaska across the Bering Strait.

    7. More Killer Storms. Please, Al Gore already got in trouble for trying to link storms and global warming and had to delete that from his slide show. Hurricane number and intensity are at an all time low. Less people die now from extreme weather than at any other time in our history.

    8. Massive Crop Failures. The increased Co2 in the atmosphere and the warming we had seen increased the growing season so that the earth was now able to feed the population for the first time. The bad winter and spring of 2007 caused a failure of the rice crop in China and we saw increased prices here and starvation in 73 3rd world countries. The growing season in Europe, the US and Canada fell in 2008 and it looks like the same is happening again. Not from global warming but from global cooling.

    9. Widespread species extinction. 50 species become extinct every day, warming or cooling. You think you can fix that? Try to make sure humans are not one of them.

    10. Dissapearance of coral reefs. Yes, in 1999, Professor Ove Hoegh-Gulberg, our leading reef alarmist and administrator of more than $30 million in warming grants, did claim the reef was threatened by warming, and much had turned white.

But he then had to admit it had made a “surprising” recovery.

Yes, in 2006 he again warned high temperatures meant “between 30 and 40 per cent of coral on Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef could die within a month”.

But he later admitted this bleaching had “minimal impact”. Yes, in 2007 he again warned that temperature changes of the kind caused by global warming were bleaching the reef.

But this month fellow Queensland University researchers admitted in a study that reef coral had once more made a “spectacular recovery”, with “abundant corals re-established in a single year”. The reef is blooming

So, Derek Markham, does somebody pay you for this?
