A few weeks back, we covered the <a href=\"http:\/\/cleantechnica.com\/2015\/10\/26\/2016-green-car-year-finalists-announced\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announcement<\/a> of the finalists and presented them to some controversy due to the lack of any full electric vehicles and the presence of a gas-only car \u2013 the 20<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">16 Honda Civic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We rationalized that this was due to its\u00a0focus on the fully scaled impact these cars would make \u2013 the Civic improving fuel efficiency on hundreds of thousands of cars would make more of an impact on overall emissions than Tesla, for instance, selling 50,000 all electric Model S sedans.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_92826\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-92826\" style=\"width: 570px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-92826 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/cleantechnica.com\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_20151119_075925-570x322.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_20151119_075925\" width=\"570\" height=\"322\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-92826\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image Credit: Kyle Field<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I understand that\u00a0perspective, but to me, that\u2019s still not a \u201cgreen car,\u201d but rather the car making the biggest impact on overall emissions. Tesla, with its\u00a0zero-emissions vehicles and <a href=\"http:\/\/cleantechnica.com\/2015\/11\/10\/gigafactory-renewable-energy-plans-slip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">strong focus on sustainable manufacturing and supply chain<\/a>,\u00a0make a stronger case for an individual car. Several folks suggested that <em>CleanTechnica<\/em> start our own \u201cClean Car of the Year\u201d award to fill the gap, and we may just have to take them up on that challenge.<\/p>\n<p>Having set the stage and primed you for the big reveal, here are the 2016 finalists, one last time: Toyota Prius, Chevrolet Volt, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, Honda Civic, and Audi A3 e-tron.
