Actually, it&#8217;s just about a dozen eggs per person per year. But hey, it&#8217;s something.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The news<\/strong>: From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cok.net\/blog\/2012\/01\/industry-news-egg-consumption-declining-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Voices of Compassion<\/a>: &#8220;per capita egg consumption in the US has been steadily declining for the past six years!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s according to a recent\u00a0<a title=\"Egg Industry Facts\" href=\"http:\/\/www.unitedegg.org\/GeneralStats\/default.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Egg Industry Fact Sheet posted on the United Egg Producers&#8217; website<\/a>, which is based on statistics from the US Department of Agriculture. As highlighted in the graph below, in 2006 the average American ate 258.1 eggs while the estimate for 2011 drops down to 246.3 &#8212; that&#8217;s nearly one dozen fewer eggs per person.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why this is important<\/strong>: Eggs come from chickens that live in <a href=\"http:\/\/planetsave.com\/2012\/01\/17\/europe-bans-battery-cage-eggs\/\" target=\"_blank\">horrid, horrid conditions<\/a>. Also, eating eggs means taking the lives of walking, thinking creatures, and, for some of us, \u00a0that&#8217;s just wrong! As one more point, livestock production is the #1 cause of global warming emissions from humans, and the egg industry is part of that unsustainable fact.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Opportunities for action<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/eatdrinkbetter.com\/category\/eating-vegan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Go vegan<\/a>! And support organizations that support going vegan! (There are a lot of them.
