American Temperatures to be Cooler and Hotter in Coming Winter

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has released its yearly Winter Outlook which tells of a second winter in a row which will be affected by La NiΓ±a which will bring continued drier and warmer than average weather in the Southern Plains and colder and wetter conditions in the Pacific Northwest.

Carbon Sequestration an Unintended Benefit of Northwest Forest Plan

Enacted in 1993, the Northwest Forest Plan consists of a series of federal policies and guidelines which govern the use of federal lands in the Pacific Northwest. Researchers have just concluded, however, that as a result of these same guidelines – which were initially introduced in an effort to conserve old growth forests and preserve species like the northern spotted owl – protection of the land increased carbon sequestration as well.

Pacific Northwest Will Suffer Same Fate as Japan

The Japanese earthquake which measured 8.9 is being called one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded, but Robert Yeats, a professor emeritus of geology at Oregon State University, said that β€œthis is our wake up call.”
