Oil companies are pushing Congress and regulatory agencies to allow for more offshore drilling in the Artic. The U.S. Coast Guardβs top official has come forward and stated that the organization is not prepared for a major oil spill in the Arctic.
US Government Allows Shell to Drill in Arctic
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) announced on last Monday that they would be granting Shell Offshore Inc. conditional approval tostart drilling four shallow water exploration wells in Alaska’s Beaufort Sea, beginning in July of 2012.
