This Spring has been pretty exciting for solar activity…Following the ending of the longest ‘solar minimum’ in more than a century, our sun’s activity (solar cycle 24) picked up considerably over the course of the month of May, culminating in an impressive M-2 class (medium size) solar flare and “spectacular” coronal mass ejection (CME) on June 7.
That’s pretty cool, eh? The comet, apparently, did not cause the explosion, and scientists have found no “convincing physical connection between sun-grazing comets and coronal mass ejections.” However, this video sure makes it look like the comet caused the explosion.
It was a truly “epic” mission; after nearly 47 years of planning, operating, monitoring and analyzing the data from a special satellite-probe known as Gravity Probe B (GP-B), NASA scientists are announcing definitive confirmation of Einstein’s famous theoretical prediction of the “warping” of space around the Earth due to its orbit and spinning motion through ‘space-time’.
astrologer has also predicted that such a close perigee would/must somehow perturb the earth’s (tectonic) integrity so much that it will trigger major earthquakes and even volcanoes (not simply severe storms). Although he is not clear on the exact lunar-geo-mechanisms that would produce these quakes, never-the-less this lunar-induced disaster scenario quickly set the Web abuzz with yet another wave of doom-and-gloom “apocalypticism.”
Timing is everything.
NASA astrobiologist Richard Hoover, claims to have found ancient bacteria fossils in a rare class of meteorite — called CI1 carbonaceous chondrites — and will surely set the astrophysics/cosmology community (and the world) abuzz with excitement and controversy.
On Feb. 6th, NASA’s twin STEREO probes moved into position on opposite sides of the sun, and they are now beaming back uninterrupted images of the entire star—front and back. … [Read full article]

Counting the number of stars in the known universe would seem to be a monstrous task akin to counting the number of grains of sand on all the world’s beaches. … [Read full article]
Life in the universe can be difficult for inhabited planets, especially when you’re directly in the path of a massive coronal mass ejection (CME) shot out from your own life-sustaining … [Read full article]
NASA reported last year that “if anything,” the Sun contributed “a very slight overall cooling in the past 25 years.” Despite that many man-made global warming deniers will try tell … [Read full article]
