Important Elections You Aren't Paying Attention To (But Need To)

OK, I’m not going to lie, the presidential election is important, but congressional and state elections may be equally or more important (I’d say “more important” with no hesitation). The sad thing is, we are so uninvolved and ill-informed in “smaller elections” that we often get what we are given rather than what we

Tea Party More & More Fringe on Global Warming

Truthfully, it feels like fantasy that I’m even writing about how much people from different parties believe in global warming or human-caused global warming. The U.S. is essentially the only country in the world with so much of its population confused about the science of global warming and unclear as to whether or not

Take Action: Protect Clean Air Today!

This Tea-Party-led Congress (well, all of the Republican party) has attacked our water, air, and climate protections more than any in history. It is out of this world how little care they have for the necessities of life. One of the most recent attacks, from one of the leading culprits, Senator Rand Paul, continues

Occupy Wall Street Roundup (7 Stories)

The Occupy Wall Street movement, despite the efforts of the mass media to belittle it and the efforts of brutal police officers to scare it away, is growing and growing fast. There are a lot of stories from the past few days that we haven’t been able to cover. Check these out:

Tea Party Nose Cutters! (cartoon)

It’s certainly good for politicians to listen to their constituents–it doesn’t happen enough. But, when their constituents are backed by rich influence, and when their constituents are so woefully close minded, you end up with corrupt politicians, ignorant constituents, and increasingly powerful and corrupt rich influence. Not good. The Tea Party does not realize how

Holy Sh#t! Joe Barton is Crazy! (cartoon)

The scariest quote was the one I left off where he called the American people smart because, “after all, they keep re-electing me”. I left it out because this cartoon is meant to illustrate how bat-shit crazy Joe Barton is, not how unimaginably daft his constituents are.

Giffords Shooting: Crazy Talk Leads to Crazy Acts. Take a Stand Against Hatred.

(From our sister-blog, Red Green and Blue) Why did a crazy person shoot at Democratic Elected officials? Is it just because he’s crazy? Or could it just possibly be because Republican elected officials call Democrats  tyrants, power-grabbers and traitors, and talk about taking up guns and doing something about it? Responding to an earlier incident, Congresswoman Giffords spoke

Giffords Shooting: Environmentalists in Crosshairs

(Crossposted from Red Green And Blue) The Tea Partiers said “If ballots don’t work, bullets will.” Today, Arizona Democrat Gabrielle Giffords was cut down by a gunman at a “Congress On Your Corner” event at a Tuscon Safeway. Federal Judge John Roll was killed in the same incident, along with a 9-year-old girl. Giffords is

Global Weirding News of the Week

Other than what we’ve already covered, of course, here’s our weekly global weirding news link drop. A little more than normal given our extensive coverage of the mass bird and fish deaths that are occurring right now (and, thus, our inability to get to other important news). Coal prices soar as warmest sea surface temperatures

Koch Brothers – Tilting at Clean Energy (cartoon and article = "cartoonicle")

The idiom “tilting at windmills” (or turbines) derives from the novel Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. It means to attack imaginary enemies, or fight unwinnable or futile battles. Big Oil and Coal (and others) are in a futile battle against clean energy. Clean energy will inevitably emerge victorious. Unfortunately, when oil billionaire brothers, Charles and David Koch of Koch Industries (apologies for putting their names on the horse and ass’s asses) fight unwinnable battles you can be certain the pointless battles will last a lot longer than they should. Putting approximately 100 million dollars of their money into right-wing coffers to keep fellow polluters happy and federal regulations lax, Koch Industries is more than eager to fight a battle that compromises our future and greatly compromises the future of our children. The same children to which they are now eagerly marketing.

GOP Only Political Party in World to Reject Climate Science?

Yes, for those familiar with climate politics, you know that Republicans have gone to odd lengths to dismiss the threats of global climate change. The nice thing is that the media is finally starting to pick up on this. Here are a couple quotes from the National Journal’s recent piece, GOP Gives Climate Science A
