John Oliver Global Warming Denial Sketch Is So Hilarious (VIDEO)

This John Oliver global warming sketch is so hilarious, but also one of the best ways I’ve seen to point out the absurdity of global warming denial: For more good videos on global warming, be sure to check out: Top Global Warming Videos For more on the fact that human activity is causing catastrophic global warming

With Santorum Out, Will Romney Go Green Again?

Santorum is officially out of the race for GOP presidential nominee. While he wasn’t the only one, he certainly ‘helped’ to push the political atmosphere towards one of extreme anti-science acceptance. Santorum was quite happy to point out on more than a few occasions that he believed in the conspiracy theory that global warming

Galileo vs. Santorum on Climate Change

I am hereby comparing Rick Santorum and US Senator James Inhofe to lizards.                         I hope this reference to reptiles is not offensive to them, their families, nor their supporters. It’s not personal. It should be taken in good-fun. Feel free to compare

Setting Yet Another WSJ Failure Straight

Guest commentary from Barry Bickmore (repost) via RealClimate. The Wall Street Journal posted yet another op-ed by 16 scientists and engineers, which even include a few climate scientists(!!!). Here is the editor’s note to explain the context. Editor’s Note: The authors of the following letter, listed below, are also the signatories of “No Need to Panic About Global Warming,” an op-ed that

Debunking Myths? Listen to This Podcast!!

I wrote on the Debunking Handbook created by Skeptical Science and some others when it was released. It’s really a must-read, but if you haven’t checked it out and are not sure if you can find the time, this podcast below by Stephen Lacey of Climate Progress with John Cook of Skeptical Science summarizes much of

Worst Heartland Coverage Yet (& Joe Romm and Andrew Revkin Make Amends?)

In another terrific post that I’m going to repost in full in a moment, leading climate change blogger Dr. Joe Romm dissects the truly heart-wrenching reporting by Juliet Eilperin of the Washington Post on the recent Heartland Institute leak. All I’m going to add on that is: JOURNALIST’S REPORTING ON GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE NEED

"I'm glad I don't live in James Delingpole's world."

That’s the first line to a truly excellent piece on New Statesman that I ran across last week. The piece is hilarious, insightful, and will hopefully help a bit to bring some sense to the countless individuals confused by Delingpole’s drivel. Here are the first two paragraphs of the piece: I’m glad I don’t

Michael Mann Interview — Love It (VIDEO)

One of the world’s leading climate scientists, Dr. Michael Mann, was recently interviewed by the good folks at the UK’s Guardian. It’s a great interview, and not just because I <3 climate scientists. Mann is truly a great communicator, and he makes very clear that what was not long ago a rather non-political issue has been politicized

German "Green Guru" far from an Actual Green Guru

When I first read news last week about “Germany’s Al Gore” turning around on global warming and saying he doubts it, I knew, there’s no way someone as informed as Gore on global warming would all of a sudden become confused about its validity. I ran across the story on the Telegraph, I think,

Fake Science & Funny Finances (to Confuse You)

The following is a tremendous post that is the result of tremendous research by John Mashey of DeSmog Blog (and other publications). It exposes some pretty weird science and finances regarding some of the top global warming deniers in the world. To put it simply, it seems there is nothing moral about these people or

How to Debunk Science Deniers

Folks over at Skeptical Science, an excellent site focused solely on debunking ridiculous anti-science myths from global warming deniers, recently put together an excellent little handbook for anyone interested in debunking science deniers (or misinformation of any sort). The handbook’s call The Debunking Handbook… appropriately. (Note: it’s free and easy to download.) Here’s an

Republican Presidential Candidates Win Climate B.S. of the Year Award

Climate scientists and communicators got together to come up with a list of 2011’s biggest climate B.S.-spewers recently. B.S. standing for Bad Science, of course. Here’s the full list, via Climate Progress: by Peter Gleick The Earth’s climate continued to change during 2011 – a year in which unprecedented combinations of extreme weather events

Global Warming Trend vs Global Warming Variation (Cute Dog Video)

What an ingenious way to show the difference between how global warming deniers look at temperature trends versus how climate scientists look at the info (h/t Climate Denial Crock of the Week): I also always love this one from Skeptical Science, too: Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature (BEST) land-only surface temperature data (green) with linear

Who Are the Real Skeptics?

Good question, and good answer, from Australian journalism student Matt Bush has an excellent piece on the horrid reporting around “Climategate 2.0.” Here’s the intro as a taster: Did you hear about this Climategate 2.0 bullshit? Why are journalists not getting fired for all this ridiculously irresponsible misreporting? Over the last couple of days, we’ve been

Potholer Nails Climategate 2.0

OK, looks like it didn’t take me long to ad another climategate post. This is a shortie though, just sharing this totally awesome Potholer video on Climategate 2.0. Watch it & share it! h/t Climate Denial Crock of the Week

One More Climategate Post (Best of the Best)

I hope (but am not confident) that this will be my last “climategate” post. I’ve now posted on it several times, maybe dozens of times. I’ve tried to bring to light the true crime in nearly every way I can, which was hacking into scientists’ emails and then cherry-picking and publishing quotes out of context

Activism News & Action Opportunities Round-Up (10 Stories)

  1. Activists occupied KFC on two continents last week. More from the Dogwood Alliance: “Colonel Sanders and various woodland creatures made appearances at over 150 KFC restaurants across the country and various locations in Europe to deliver a message, ‘Stop destroying Southern forests for your throwaway packaging.’ The iconic KFC bucket and other KFC

Stolen Emails Show How Pitiful Global Warming Deniers Are

Because I just don’t have the interest in writing about another head-explodingly stupid global warming denier effort to undermine climate change action, here’s a full repost of a great story by Joe Romm of Climate Progress: Fool Me Once, Shame on You, Fool Me Twice, Shame on the Media: More Stolen Emails Can’t Stop Catastrophic

Hiding the Incline (Global-Warming-Denier Junk Science)

One more excellent post from Skeptical Science this week that I just had to repost in full. Tellin’ it like it is: by dana1981 A number of climate not-so-skeptics have recently been exploiting global sea level data in their latest attempt to hide the incline.  Skeptical Science readers will be very familiar with the tactics

BEST Climate Science Study (The Video)

The ever-witty and insightful video-making expert Peter Sinclair has made one of his signature “Climate Denial Crock of the Week” videos around the topic of the recent BEST climate study, a study by a “climate skeptic” that ended up telling us what climate scientists have been telling us for decades. Yes, this skeptic study has

How Global Temperatures Predictions Compare to What Happened (Skeptics Off Target)

Skeptical Science has another great post up this week that I just have to repost in full (which includes some pretty wicked graphics). It takes a look at how various climate scientists’ predictions ended up comparing to what we’ve actually seen. As you’ll be able to see, several skeptics basically failed, while leading scientists such as Dr. James Hansen (a regular climate activist, as well as the top climatologist at NASA) and those at the IPCC did pretty darn well. Here’s a repost of Comparing Global Temperature Predictions:

Global Warming Videos (Best, Funniest, Most Inspiring)

There are a lot of good videos out there on global warming and climate change, and solutions to them. Sometimes, though, I have a hard time finding the one I’m looking for. So, I thought I’d create a piece with all the best global warming and climate change videos I know of (and I’ll add to it as new ones are created).

Secretary of Agriculture: "Hard to Explain" How Anyone Could Not Tell the Climate is Changing

Yes, with heat records in the U.S. and elsewhere being set like there’s no tomorrow, disaster records being set in a similar manner, and a little bit of 1 plus 1 equals 2, it’s hard to believe anyone would not believe climate change is already happening. Add on the following chart on who has stated global warming is happening and who hasn’t and one really has to wonder what Tea Partiers are smoking (since it is mostly just Tea Partiers who are still denying the science).

Rick Perry Mistaken, Galileo Was a Liberal

Love this piece by Chris Mooney of Desmog Blog on Rick Perry’s ridiculous assumption that climate science deniers are like Galileo (I’ve written similar replies in the comments of our posts several times over the years), so reposting it in full here:

Yes, Climategate was Science Denier B.S.

For what I think is the 7th time, independent review has found that Dr. Michael Mann’s work is completely scientifically sound and that climate gate was only a crime in that someone broke in and stole over a decade’s worth of emails (and then someone else used them to try to frame climate scientists.. and quite successfully did so.)

"Climate is on Steroids"

Can you guess which major media outlet made that analogy? NYTimes? No, it’s one of the worst sources of climate change news and commentary these days. Washington Post? If only! FOX News? OK, yes, that would be absurd — hope the idea made you laugh, at least.
