Hanwha Solar Launches More Energy-Efficient Solar Modules for Solar Rooftop Market

At Solar Power International (SPI) 2012, Hanwha Solar, a leading manufacturer of silicon ingots and photovoltaic panels introduced a new range of solar products specially designed to deliver flexibility with energy storage, better module designs to provide high energy output, and cost reduction through Epi thin-film technology. The products were launched in partnership with Hanwha’s strategic partners, tenKsolar, Silent Power, and Crystal Solar.

Three Hanwha solar products were launched at SPI, mainly OptiMax Module, the OptiMax Wave, and SunBank.

According to Hanwha Solar, its “OptiMax module, powered by tenKsolar, is an advanced PV panel designed with optimized cell architecture that maximizes the performance of the module, delivering higher energy output and greater return on investment. The OptiMax module features parallel wiring with no string or orientation matching and a low fixed-voltage output, which allows for simple and flexible array design.” The module will be available for residential customers in the first half of 2013.

The OptiMax Wave, also powered by tenKsolar, is an optimized rooftop solution that helps to deliver high-energy density and high power output for commercial applications. The OptiMax is expected to generate more energy per square foot of rooftop area than any other PV system available and minimizes annual performance degradation to less than 0.2 percent. It will be available for sale by the end of this year in the United States.

The SunBank, jointly developed by Hanwha Solar and Silent Power, helps to integrate Hanwha Solar One PV modules with the Silent Power distributed energy storage device to offer a complete system with energy storage. SunBank will be powered by latest technology to provide the customers with the detailed information relating to energy production, consumption, and net metering through advanced control and instrumentation techniques. The product will be available for residential and light commercial use in North America. This product is a part of Hanwha Solar and Silent Power strategic partnership in 2012 with an $8 million investment led by the Hanwha Group.

Hanwha Solar also showcased a new technology concept module featuring next-generation silicon cell manufacturing technology called the Epi Thin-Silicon Module, which claims to reduce operational and capital costs by up to 50 percent compared to standard wafer manufacturing processes.

Hanwha SolarOne chief technology officer Chris Eberspacher adds: “Epi Thin-Silicon technology will pave the way for cost-effective solar power on a global scale. We have just begun to activate our partnerships with innovative companies across the value chain, like Crystal Solar, tenKsolar and Silent Power. Hanwha Solar will continue to develop new technology that meets evolving customer needs.”
