Keystone XL Showtime (Again)

The Keystone XL is still clinging for life in the U.S. Senate. Here’s a note from 350.org:

It’s crunch time: the US Senate will be voting on Keystone XL very soon, as early as this week.

Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid indicated that he will allow a vote on an amendment to approve the pipeline during debate about a transportation bill this week. If the vote proceeds, it will be the first time that the pipeline has had an up or down vote in the Senate. If Keystone is blocked on this vote, we will be in a much stronger position to keep it bottled up in the future.

The 44 Senators who are co-sponsoring the amendment have taken over $20 million dollars in total from the oil industry, which is just one indication of how profounding big oil money has corrupted the Senate’s approack to energy issues.

More updates will be posted here as they develop.

I received a call-to-action today from CREDO to call my Senator. However, I’m not seeing a generic action opportunity for that on its site. I’ll keep you updated as more roll in.

In the meantime, here’s what Joe Romm called a “must-see video on the true cost of tar sands“:

Any more news on the tar sands or the Keystone XL to share?

  1. Keystone good, green groups bad. Sorry you have it all wrong on Keystone….oil will get shipped. So if you want it to go truck or train…well think about the environmental risk with those options! One way or another, it’s getting transported…please check facts and be real about the fact that the world will be carbon dependent for at least the next 20-40 years.
