Roseanne Barr Running for Green Party Presidential Nominee!

roseanne barr running for presidentSay what?!

Roseanne Barr—yes, that Roseanne— is running for president of the United States of America, and she has now stated that she’s running for the Green Party’s nomination.

“The actress-comedian said in a statement that she’s a longtime supporter of the party and looks forward to working with people who share her values,” HuffPo reports.

While Roseanne certainly isn’t an average, working-class American, she did play one on TV for a long time, and I’m sure many people consider her as such. Combining that average-American feel with Green Party progressivism could make for some pretty interesting political alliances.

I have to say, I’m pretty into it! However, she seems to have some pretty extreme views that are out of touch with political reality or possibilities, as the video below shows (apparently, Roseanne announced on the Jay Leno show in August that she was running for president.. but not that she was running for the Green Party nomination).

So, hmm, she says she’s serious, but this also looks a bit like a comedy skit in the Jay Leno video.

But she is definitely on the 99% bandwagon, and she’s big into returning more power and wealth to them. And, I think, more than anything, she intends to bring important issues to the presidential debates that are being all but ignored by most in the national political scene.

“I will barnstorm American living rooms,” Roseanne said in a candidate questionnaire submitted to the Green Party. “Mainstream media will be unable to ignore me, but more importantly they will be unable to overlook the needs of average Americans in the run-up to the 2012 election.”

Additionally, she gets it on global warming (and the #1 human cause of global warming). “If people were to get their protein from nuts rather than beef, you see, there’d be no global warming, and there would also be enough grain to feed all the hungry people.” That is true….

The Green Party will be selecting it presidential nominee at its national convention in July.

  1. For more recent information about Roseanne Barr’s campaign plans and positions as a Green candidate, see her responses to a Green Party questionnaire that she submitted on Feb. 1: http://www.gp.org/committees/pcsc/documents/rfp_gpus_questionnaire_1_23_12.pdf

Roseanne is running against Jill Stein, whose questionnaire responses are here: http://www.gp.org/committees/pcsc/2012/candidate-questionnaire/stein.shtml

Roseanne and Jill are the two candidates who have currently qualified as candidates for the Green Party’s 2012 nomination.
