Maldives May Move to Australia due to Rising Sea Levels

The Maldives is one of the first nation’s of the world that may go under water due to rising seas from global warming. As such, it has been one of the most vocal advocates of combating global warming. However, it is quickly running out of time, and the nation must consider other options.

“It is increasingly becoming difficult to sustain the islands, in the natural manner that these islands have been,” Nasheed recently told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“If the tiny archipelago of the Maldives disappears below rising sea levels caused by global warming, the nation’s president is warning Australia to prepare for a wave of climate refugees,” Think Progress reports.

“President Mohamed Nasheed said his government is considering Australia, as well as Sri Lanka and India, as possible new homes if sea levels rise so high that the nation’s islands are no longer inhabitable.”

The country has money saved up to buy land on other countries and move about 350,000 people there.

  1. Knowing muslims, they will soon ask for separatism and give Australia all hell imagineable. Best to send them to India or Bangladesh. Sri Lanka has suffered enough with people who refuse to integrate.
