Obama on Rick Perry: "Governor Whose State Is on Fire Denying Global Warming."

It’s sad that there’s even the opportunity to mock such a disaster, but kudos to Obama for calling Perry out on his global warming denial, as his state suffers the hottest U.S. summer on record and tremendous wildfires and drought.

Here’s more from Politico:

“Has anybody been watching the debates lately? You’ve got a governor whose state is on fire denying climate change,” Obama said to applause in San Jose, according to the pool. “It’s true. You’ve got audiences cheering at the prospect of somebody dying because they don’t have health care and booing a service member in Iraq because they’re gay.”

Yes, the Republican leaders are denying clear science, with a complete lack of compassion for humanity and even for the human beings living and suffering (and sometimes dying) within their own states and country.

Sad. Disturbing.

Was Obama being insensitive mentioning the fires in Texas like this? I don’t think so at all. He is trying to bring attention to the fact that we are, ourselves, causing some of the most disturbing humanitarian disasters known to man, and it’s only going to get worse if we don’t address climate change fast. As they get worse and worse, will Republicans wake up? Will they wake up before it’s too late to stop a total climate train wreck? Who knows?…

Unfortunately, Obama hasn’t been doing a very good job of addressing global warming either (yes, largely because of the insanely anti-science Republican part and their hostage-holding tactics, but also in some other respects). We’ll see what his “make or break” decision on the tar sands ends up being.
