New Zealand from Space {Photo of the Day}

This image of the south of New Zealand’s North Island and the north of its South Island was taken by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite on April 29, 2011.

Due to heavy rains causing increased runoff and wave action along the coast, the waters of Cook Strait between the two islands saw increased turbidity – cloudiness or haziness of a fluid caused by individual particles – in the waters.
