Valle Caldera from Space {Photo of the Day}

Valles Caldera is the remains of a collapsed magma chamber which spans some 22 kilometres (14 miles) in New Mexico, and is featured below in the image taken by the Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus on Landsat 7 satellite on May 22, 2002.

To the east of the massive caldera lies the city of Los Alamos, while immediately surrounding the ancient volcano are a network of valleys. Plants have taken over much of the space in and around the caldera.
