Canadian Wildfires in Alberta {Photo of the Day}

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite captured this image of the over a hundred fires burning in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories in Canada on May 16, 2011.

At 10 in the morning on May 16, the Alberta government reported that there were 116 fires burning across the province, with 34 of them out of control. A day later this tally had dropped to 100 and 22, but four new fires had started in the meantime.
