Colbie Caillat on "Ending the Cycle of Cruelty"

I love when celebrities speak out on important matters like protecting our clean air and water and climate or opposing animal cruelty. Why? Simple — because they have so much influence. I love it more when it’s a celebrity I really like.

I got lucky this week — two celebrities I love spoke out against animal cruelty and environmentally harmful factory farming. Jason Schwartzman of Rushmore, I Heart Huckabees, and many other great films and TV series teamed up with Farm Sanctuary for a great short film on factory farming and its negative effects on animals, our environment, and our health. The quite funny and interesting short film also showed how easy and pleasurable it is to eat vegetarian. I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it yet.

Now, I also just got the word today that Colbie Caillat teamed up with the Humane Society to take action against cruel puppy mills. Another great cause. Here’s more from her:

Thousands of mother dogs are suffering in puppy mills, spending their lives in cramped wire cages. These mothers are forced to breed in continuous cycles to produce puppies for the pet industry.

Mother dogs don’t get to care for their puppies; they are taken away at eight weeks old. When they can’t breed, the mother dogs are discarded or killed. That’s why I’m joining The Humane Society of the United States in speaking out during Puppy Mill Action Week.

Each day this week, you can take action against this cruel industry. Start by joining me today in remembering the dogs suffering in puppy mills — watch my video, then sign the pledge to help stop puppy mill cruelty »

Sincerely,

Colbie Caillat
