White House Releases Environmentally-Friendly Easter Eggs

Easter is right around the corner and the White House has released its official souvenir eggs in anticipation of the upcoming Easter Egg Roll… and they are environmentally-friendly eggs!

This year’s eggs (pictured above) will come in purple, yellow, green and pink, with stamped signatures of President Obama and the First Lady. They will be crafted from Forest Stewardship Council-certified hardwood.

“The packaging has also been designed to minimize waste and environmental impact, helping to create a ‘greener’ Easter egg and Easter Egg packaging.”

The annual White House Easter Egg Roll will be on April 25 this year. The National Park Foundation (NPF) produces and sells the White House Easter Egg. The egg is given as a souvenir to all children 12 years and younger who attend the White House Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn, which is part of the National Park System.

Here are some more facts about the Eco Eggs:

The eggs are made from Sustainable Forestry Initiative certified paperboard.
SFI paperboard uses no wood fibers from controversial sources.
The printed carton is easily recyclable when collected and processed in a municipal or community Paperboard Recycling Program.
Features vegetable oil-based inks and a water-based coating.

If you would like to view or purchase the eggs, you can online via the National Park Foundation. You can also call 866-401-5079 to purchase the eggs.

  1. I hate to tell you, but the so-called “Sustainable Forestry Initiative” is an industry-run scam eco-label that greenwashes forest deforestation, massive clearcuts, landslides, the destruction of fish and wildlife habitat, and the poisoning of communities with toxic chemicals. It’s old-fashioned industrial forestry at its worst! There is nothing “green” about it.

Don’t believe the hype about the SFI…take action by signing our petition!
