Ireland from Space Under Cloud and Snow

St. Patrick’s Day might have been last week, but it’s never too late to showcase some beautiful imagery taken of the Emerald Isle.

The first image looks at Ireland under a sky of clouds and having already been dusted with snow. The image, taken by the Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite, acquired this natural-color image of Ireland in the early afternoon on December 2, during a break in the cloud cover: since the lat week of November, Ireland and the Uk had been locked in a record pattern of snowfalls and cold temperatures.

The second image was taken a day before St. Pat’s Day, once again by MODIS onboard Aqua, and shows an almost cloud-free Ireland and a very heavily clouded UK.
