Hertsgaard Nails Inhofe, Oil Lobbyists [Amazing Video Interviews]

Wow, no joke, Mark Hertsgaard nailed it in some key interviews with “climate cranks” in Washington this week. Explicitly pointing out that the most prestigious, overarching scientific bodies in the world have supported climate scientists’ work and conclusions and have stated that accelerated and potentially catastrophic climate change caused by humans is happening; that the Republican party is the only significant political party in the world to deny this; and that climate change action is being held up in the U.S. for non-scientific reasons, Hertsgaard puts the point across extremely well in this short video while putting climate cranks on the hot seat.

The statements at the end of the video by a top big energy lobbyist that “the science really doesn’t matter that much” (as he admits he has said for years) and you won’t get him to argue about the science are more than telling. There is no argument about the general scientific conclusions, but that the science doesn’t really matter that much is only true to a few oil billionaires. To the rest of the world, it matters a ton.

Senator James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma), in the video, says: “What if you’re wrong?” In other words, what if the world’s leading scientific organizations and leading climate scientists are wrong?

Wow, yes, what if the 2% (or less) chance climate scientists are wrong ends up being the reality? I’ll leave you with this cartoon on just that matter:

is global warming a hoax, & what if

  1. Zach,
Do you honestly think that Inhofe interview does anything to further the climate change clause? It’s nothing but an embarressment and furthers the public majority’s perception that AGW is nothing more than a politicized cause being put forth by eco-zealots. I believe most people will find the video uncomfortable to watch and if you think these tactics will further the cause or win-over public opinion, forget it!

    1. Scott in AZ: To the majority of people, I think this is not an embarrassment at all but a brave, pointed interview with important results. Obviously, otherwise I would not have written what I wrote above or shared it. Global warming science is clear, but yes, the politics are standing in the way of what the large majority of the country wants. Yes, Inhofe and the energy lobbyists look uncomfortable, because they are saying absurd things and having to face the truth on camera talking with a very educated, well-spoken journalist and concerned young lady. Obviously, you came here looking for trouble.

      1. No Zach, I’m not looking for trouble. I’m just an average US citizen, very educated myself, who will spend the time to look around and research all sides of an issue. My response was prompted by my disagreement with your declaration that Mark “nailed it”. After watching the video, I was just interested to see what other reactions were because I was scratching my head trying to figure out how active supporters of the AGW cause thought it would sway people into their camp. I never mentioned my actual position on the issue of AGW, I was just being critical of the tactics being deployed to try further the cause. Nothing more. Appreciate you posting my comments. Take care.

        1. Thanks, Scott. Hertsgaard nails several key points: the leading scientific institutions in the world have supported the findings of climate scientists, which are that we are in big trouble if we don’t address climate change now and invest more in clean energy and energy efficiency. the fact that he got the lobbyist on camera saying that “the science doesn’t matter” nails the position of the guys. the fact that he and a young lady confront Inhofe with a question he doesn’t want to hear, and we see how he uselessly responds to that without a script to read, is useful, imho
