Bicycling on the Increase, Snowball Effect to Keep it Going?

More people are bicycling for transportation purposes these days, a lot more. Bicycling has tripled or increased by an even larger amount in Washington, D.C., Minneapolis, Chicago, San Francisco, and many other big North American cities in the past couple of decades.

And what happens when you see more people on the street on two wheels? You feel more inclined to get on the street on two wheels. Not only is it super healthy, it would also ease your environmental conscious as much as it would reduce your greenhouse gas emissions. And not only that, bicycling is fun (and we know it)!

NPR, reporting on this matter, writes:

“It’s almost like a snowball effect,” says researcher John Pucher of Rutgers University. “People see other people cycling and they say, ‘Wow!’ ”

“It’s almost become a cultural phenomenon,” Pucher says. “It’s become the ‘in’ thing to do.” For many city dwellers, it’s a money saver, a time saver and a way to sneak in daily exercise.
