"Death on a Factory Farm" Premiers Tomorrow on HBO

HBO will premier a new documentary titled “Death on a Factory Farm” tomorrow at 10 pm EST.

The film is a sequel to 2006’s Emmy-nominated “Dealing Dogs,” which exposed the illegal market for dogs sold to research labs through an undercover investigation by a man going by “Pete.” Well, Pete is back again and this time he landed a job at Wiles Hog Farm.

Animal welfare group The Humane Farming Association sought out Pete’s help after hearing of allegations of mistreatment from a former Wiles Hog Farm employee. Within six weeks, Pete was able to capture damning evidence of animal cruelty on video including “an unhealthy piglet being slammed against a wall to euthenize it and a sick sow being hung by a chain from a forklift until it choked to death.”

The Humane Farming Association brought the footage to the sheriff who then raided the farm and pressed criminal charges against the owner of the farm, his son, and an employee who helped hang the pig on the forklift. The documentary continues with their trial and, well, I won’t give away the ending!

  1. I am so grateful to HBO for airing this documentary. People need to be shown the cruelty they are supporting. There are countless similar stories, that should be featured as top news stories & documentaries like this! The common practices & guidelines accepted on industrial factory farms are despicable, & the reports of outright assault & abuse of the animals are constant. They are giving good farmers a bad name! We need to support the hard working farmers out there, who are farming the right way, CARING for the land & the animals rather than simply exploiting.

Thanks to “Pete” for getting this undercover footage and for making this doc happen! And thanks again to HBO for getting it out there.

  2. Kathleen in NYS

    Me too, Bea.

Also, I wish we got HBO or that HBO provided their info online after the fact, but they don’t.

  3. More people need to see these things. No one WANTS to see it, but it needs to be seen and it needs to be realized that this isn’t isolated. It’s happening all over, and at every moment. This moment. The way to make it stop? Stop the demand and go vegan.

  4. My hope is that the more people are exposed to these horrors the more likely they will be to realize that a plant based diet is an excellent way to align their values with their actions.
Thanks for posting about this important topic.
    Go Vegan
