The five Sea Shepherd crew members on board the Steve Irwin found Tasmanian police back at their ship a few weeks after they had confiscated all their video material from the latest campaign. But this time, the police arrived to protect the crew.

“Someone called in a bomb threat about 20 minutes ago, stating that it would detonate in 30 minutes,” a police officer told the crew. “You therefore have 10 minutes left.”
No bomb went off and all five crew members are safe. Captain Paul Watson said this is not the first time the ship has had a bomb threat against them and that he does not expect it to be the last.
“I appreciate the quick response of the Tasmanian police and the readiness of the Sea Shepherd crew,” said Watson. “As ranking onboard officer Pedro Montiero responded coolly and efficiently. The event was given the seriousness required without panic or anxiety.”
“We must always remember that we are in a war to save this planet from ourselves and retaliation must always be expected and attacks from cowards who make bomb threats should always be anticipated.”

Does anyone have a link to this story in a reputable newspaper. I have searched numerious Australian Newspapers and cannot find anything about this. If this actually happened it seems like something Watson would be using to get lots of media attention. Also if it did happen the way Watson describes the police did not respond properly to this incident. If they though there was a bomb onboard they are the ones that should have searched the vessel rather than allowing the crew to go take a look.

For the enlightenment of Tim Garrison I would like to say that the Tasmanian police have arrested a suspect for making the threat. The idiot made a bomb threat from his own cell phone and it was immediatly traced. They have not released the name of the suspect yet. Hmm I wonder – could it be Tim Garrison?
