Drink Your Pee!: The Future of Water Filtration

Dean Kamen wants you to drink your pee…or sewage, or toxic, disease infested water.

But not until after his Slingshot has worked its magic!

The Super-Inventor unfortunately most known for the failure of his Segway has segway-ed into world-changing inventions. His latest, the Slingshot, can turn any collection of water-containing cocktails (ie. urine, ocean water, toxic sludge, sewage etc.) into pure, distilled drinking water. The Slingshot does all this without the use of filters or reverse-osmosis membranes. It purifies the water-containing source using vapor compression distillation, and can run on cow manure! And as if that weren’t enough, the manure-powered Slingshot generates enough electricity to light 70 energy-efficient light bulbs.

I guess Kamen learned from the over-hype the Segway received and is playing this invention closer to his vest. But given the potential impact this amazing invention could have on a world where 1.1 billion people do not have access to clean drinking water, it’s a wonder that this invention hasn’t received worldwide fanfare as yet. Not that a 6 minute segment on the Colbert Report is anything to scoff at. But, to me this invention merits much more hype (!)–and not just for its potential solution to the global drinking water crisis.

The thought that keeps pooping popping into my head is:

Why can’t the Slingshot replace all toilets worldwide?
If a cow’s dung can power this (with extra energy leftover), couldn’t ours? We already know it can turn our pee into pure, distilled water. So, if the Slingshot could work in such a way as to turn our toilets into water saving, water producing, energy producing machines, a whole myriad of water-related (and on a smaller scale, energy-related) problems would be solved.

Regardless of the question I raise above, the Slingshot is a magnificent invention! Keep checking back on PlanetSave–I look forward to reporting on its development.

I’m so excited I could pee (into a Slingshot)!

  1. hey there and thanks for your info ? I’ve definitely picked up anything new from proper here. I did then again expertise a few technical points the usage of this website, since I skilled to reload the web site a lot of instances prior to I could get it to load correctly. Anyway I’m including this RSS to my email and can glance out for much extra of your respective intriguing content. Ensure that you update this again very soon..

  2. So much for the adage, “When the revolution comes, don’t piss in the water supply!” That WILL be the water supply!

The question about using human fecal matter rather than cow dung is likely down to the chemical properties of cow manure (or horse manure, which would work as well, I’d think.)
