What happened with people who sided with Hitler and the Nazis in their quest to murder countless humans? As their crowd rose to the heights of power and prestige, many people who supported them must have thought their futures were looking up and they were setting up some kind of positive family reputation for future generations. To […]

On Tuesday, one big handy graphic appeared online detailing what every state governor really believes about climate change. The Center for American Progress released an interactive map of the 50 states. It details the sad fact that half of America’s 29 Republican governors agree with the anti-science caucus of Congress. Tiffany Germain And Ryan Koronowski, who wrote the […]
Well, Rick Perry has been trying to play off his huge Republican presidential primary brain fart (a good one if he had it permanently) by turning it into a joke. Well, it was a joke to many people, just as Rick Perry’s presidential candidacy, but the sad thing is that his intention to kill […]
Somewhat big news in environmental and energy politics today is Rick Perry’s major slip-up in the Republican presidential debate last night. The problem? He couldn’t remember the third federal agency he wants to kill (other than the Department of Energy and Department of Commerce) — the Department of Energy. The funny thing is, the number […]
It’s sad that there’s even the opportunity to mock such a disaster, but kudos to Obama for calling Perry out.
Using a global warming denier talking point that is completely backwards, GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry compared “climate skeptics” to Galileo recently. To anyone who knows anything about climate science or Galileo, Rick Perry was completely off on this analogy, and actually has it backwards.
Sure, saying that Rick Perry “ignores reality” is true. Heck, they guy is the governor of a state that just had its (and any US state’s) hottest summer ever, record-smashing drought, and tremendous fires, and yet he ignores the conclusive scientific proclamation that we are causing catastrophic climate change and need to get off of fossil fuels to stop it. I mean, can you ignore reality any more?!
However, Santorum seems just about as crazy and ignores the clear climate science we should all be acting on NOW as well. He said “There is no such thing as global warming” on the Glenn Beck show this June! Looney.
Well, I don’t think anyone who has any knowledge of science at all would disagree. Rick Perry (and anyone else) who denies that global warming is happening (and is caused by humans) is out of the mainstream.
Love this piece by Chris Mooney of Desmog Blog on Rick Perry’s ridiculous assumption that climate science deniers are like Galileo (I’ve written similar replies in the comments of our posts several times over the years), so reposting it in full here:
Rick Perry — praying for corporations, working to dirty our water and air and worsen our climate:
I received an email from 350.org the other day with a link to a great Bill McKibben article in the Washington Post. Worth a read. Here’s the intro:
Well, actually, I’ve got a few images I think Rick Perry should see, but this first one is the one that inspired me to write this post.
The sad thing is not that Texas Governor and potential presidential candidate Rick Perry is rallying his state to prayer for rain — prayer is all the state’s got at this point in the midst of this massive, harmful, record drought and heat wave. The sad thing is, Rick Perry and his GOP are doing nothing to prevent future heat waves and droughts like this or worse from doing even more harm. Climate science is clear and sound. It has been developed over centuries! However, fossil-fuel-funded Republicans like Perry are ignoring it and claiming it is a hoax to make a buck. I don’t think that’s very in-line with the teaching of Christ or any other religious leader. Since when was it moral to sacrifice the lives and basic necessities of billions so that you can make more money and have more power?
It will come as no surprise that American Republicans and Democrats disagree on the climate change issue at the moment, and according to a first of its kind study, the gap between Democrats and Republicans who believe global warming is happening increased a total of 30 percent between the years 2001 and 2010.
Obama Calls Out Climate Deniers (GOP); Kerry Fed Up with "The Flat Earth Caucus"; Schwarzenegger Says GOP Making Him Cry; Texas Governor Gets State to Pray for Rain
Yeah, that’s a long title. A number of recent political statements seem to indicate that us green bloggers aren’t the only ones frustrated by the GOP’s (and a handful of fossil-fuel-funded Democrats’) scientific ignorance and their attack on science.
Even Republican former California governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and other Republicans who understand the importance of the environment are completely fed up with the leading science-denying members of the Republican party. I guess some remember that it is the source of our oxygen, water, food, etc., and also important for its own sake.
