The United States Empire

blackwater-usa.JPGOrder 17, is a sweet little deal Paul Bremer and his chums created in 2004 to save their sorry little asses from Iraqi prosecution. Ironic isn’t it? We liberate a country only to make them defenseless against our own acts of obvious aggression. We give our security firms complete immunity. Which brings us to the dainty little Christian-right backed, Blackwater USA. (I bet long nights were spent thinking of that spooky name.) As we all know, guns and religion blend beautifully.

Blackwater had a $300 million plus contract to protect U.S. defense department personnel in Iraq. The Bush Administration purchased their security. Red flags should be going up. This is the end of it all. The beginning of the military state started a long time ago and we are welcoming imperialism with hugs and kisses. If we can buy security forces larger and more effective than our own army, without the need for public approval… what does that make us, the citizens, but tiny pawns in their cruel little game. Democracy, where did you go?

Last week, Blackwater’s license was revoked in Iraq. Don’t rejoice yet. According to their website, they don’t strictly defend the U.S. but the entire world. From their site, “Blackwater USA is the most comprehensive professional military, law enforcement, security, peacekeeping, and stability operations company in the world.” Perhaps Iran will make a phone call…
