Polar Ice Melting Marks Rise in Carbon Dioxide

polar ice melting

I remember seeing the first pictures of the North Pole marker underwater last summer, and being immediately, irreconcilably bummed out. There’s simply no denying that the Earth is watching its polar ice melting away at an alarming rate- a rate that’s been accelerating for decades now- as man-made carbon emissions continue to rise.

I’m the first to point out that correlation doesn’t always equal causation

… but when carbon dioxide quantities in the atmosphere go up in nearly direct relation to the rate of polar ice melting, as new research from the Earth Systems Research Lab (ESRL) at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) indicates, well … it looks bad for the climate change deniers, is all I’m saying. Check out some of the NOAA data for yourself in the article, below, originally written by Emily Adams. Enjoy!

Arctic Sea Ice Freefall is Mirror Image of Carbon Dioxide Ascent (via sustainablog)

By Emily E. Adams The amount of Arctic sea ice has plummeted in recent decades—a bold manifestation of the rise in temperature resulting from the rapid increase in carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. After staying below 300 parts per million (…
