Are you in the environmental sustainability industry and looking for a forward-focused, intensive and up to date conference on water? You are in good company. Over the next two years there will be a number of important summits being held all over the world. Each will discuss topics that pertain to the continued search for a solution to the global water crisis.
Here are five such events to keep an eye on.
This is an event that is more than just a standard conference.. It is a summit that draws people from all over the world to discuss how the world’s water can be better sustained and used responsibly. For their 15th annual event, it will be held by the International Water Resources Association in Edinburgh, Scotland. There is no word yet on the program, as it is not being held until 2015. But if you go to any international water conference in 2015, this will be the one to be at.

It isn’t just sustainability and availability that are of concern when it comes to water. So is the quality of that water. This conference is about better monitoring that quality, and addressing any issues that crop up as a result of poor levels of hygiene and safety. It will be held at Bismark State College in North Dakota. Check their website in the coming months for further information.
A wider conference looking at water, energy and climate, this year they are looking at urban areas and potential future city centers. Mainly, what they will need in order to prosper, dealing first with the problems of resource availability within the regions. Key themes will be urban water, policy and finance for energy and carbon neutrality, planning and infrastructure for the water sector, and optimizing water cycle management.
When and Where: May 21 – 23, 2014; Mexico City, Mexico
Do you have a paper that you feel would make a winning lecture? You have until January 15, 2014 to submit it for the 5th World Congress and Environmental and Resource Economists. Taking place in Istanbul, Turkey, they are looking for empirical and theoretical papers on any natural resource or environmental economics issues.
This conference has become well known for being a well rounded event centered on the water sustainability industry. This year they are spreading out over several topics. These will include wastewater and recycling, produced water, FRAC water treatment, desalination principles and practices, mine water treatment, steam generation, process water preparation, and cooling and processing water. They are taking abstracts for papers until March. On their website you will find a list of topics they suggest. But technically you can submit a paper on anything within the realm of water sustainability or global usage/availability issues.
