Solar Car For Zimbabwe Pregnant Women Designed By Australian High Schooler

Some places clearly don’t have the health or transportation facilities that most of us are accustomed to. Cleantech is increasingly being used to help provide that. In the latest such story, a high school student from Adelaide, Australia, has helped design a solar-powered car to transport pregnant women in Zimbabwe to a local health clinic.

“Vaibhav Sekhar and his mentor Dr Peter Pudney were contacted by a non-government organisation in Zimbabwe asking if they could help build them a car to help transport pregnant women to hospital,” Yahoo!7 News writes.

Vaibhav and his mentor conceived of the low-maintenance, solar-powered, three-seat vehicle able to handle tough terrain that is featured in the pictures and video below.

When I initially saw the headline for this story, I figured it was another story about a solar-powered car for the upcoming World Solar Challenge. It was quite a nice surprise to see that the car is actually a practical solution for a real-world need.
