Elizabeth Warren For Senate (Massachusetts)

If you’re voting in the Massachusetts election today or tomorrow, you should be voting for Elizabeth Warren without any hesitation — she’s one of the best politicians I’m aware of. Here’s a quick rundown of how her and her opponent, Scott Brown, differ:

Not many politicians are so dedicated to the people as Elizabeth Warren. She’s a true superhero. As Wikipedia notes, “Her work as a national policy advocate led to the conception and establishment of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.” With her knowledge as a professor of law at Harvard University, and her dedication to the public, Warren has already done a great deal to protect the public from financial misconduct, and I’m sure that if she is elected to the Senate she will do much more.

Without a doubt, Warren would do much more for consumers and the middle class than her contender Scott Brown.

“In the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, Warren served as chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel created to oversee the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). She later served as Assistant to the President and Special Advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau under President Barack Obama. In the late 2000s she was recognized by publications such as the National Law Journal and the Time 100 as an increasingly influential public policy figure.”

Warren On Environment & Energy

Beyond these obvious reasons why any middle class person should vote for Warren, one should also note that Ms. Warren is in favor of cutting fossil fuel subsidies (subsidies to some of the richest companies in the world) and speeding up the transition to a clean energy economy (a critical need if the US is to remain a global economic leader). “Right now, renewable energy competes with old energies that get lots of special breaks from Washington. We know that we can generate power with alternative energy sources like wind, solar, and hydropower. We also know that we can make energy usage far more efficient. If we commit ourselves to clean energy and energy efficiency now, in the long run we can reduce price swings and lower our overall costs.”

Notably, this is what the huge majority of the public wants (based on pretty much every poll I’ve ever seen on the matter), and is only blocked by fossil fuel–funded GOP congresspeople.

Warren is also clear on her understanding that humans are causing considerable global warming and climate change, which are a great threat to human civilization as we know it.

Warren On Education

Ms. Warren has strong passion for education, and supports it about as well as anyone imaginable. Here’s a bit from Warren herself on this subject:

It has become more and more essential for young people to get some kind of post-high school education – whether college or advanced technical training. We have a choice: are we going to tell our young people that they are on their own, or are we going to invest in them – and in our own future? I believe we must invest in our future, and that means investing more in our public colleges and universities, it means supporting advanced technical training programs, and it means getting serious about strengthening grant programs and forgiving loans for those that serve their communities.

But it is not enough to address the costs of college. Across this Commonwealth, we also have to do more to help our kids before they get to college. My very first job after college was as a special needs teacher in a public elementary school. I saw first-hand how important it is for a child to have great teachers and get a first-rate education. It’s why my first love is teaching, and it is why I am appalled at the frequent attacks on public school teachers around this country. A great teacher can make a huge difference in a child’s life, and we need to invest in getting great teachers in classrooms everywhere.

Without a doubt, if you are interested in educational programs that will keep the United States one of the top nations in the world, you have to support Elizabeth Warren.

Warren On Jobs & The Economy

When it comes to the always important and often prioritized topic of jobs and the economy, Warren again provides a 360 slam dunk.

Warren has a very extensive page on her site about her many solutions to creating jobs. Rather than paraphrase or cherry pick, I think you need to visit the page and give it a full look. It is full of very apt comments, important solutions, and logical thinking.

Vote For Elizabeth Warren, And Get Out The Vote

Across the board, Warren is an excellent choice for Senate. I hope that, if you are in Massachusetts, you will not only vote for Ms. Warren, but also encourage your friends, family, and even strangers on the street to do so (but, you know, in a polite and friendly way… not like some kind of crazed political junky :D).

Note: no, I have no affiliation to Ms Warren and this post is simply a labor of love in support of one of the few politicians I greatly support.
