A Look Into Eco-Friendly Make-up: What Products To Believe In

While not everybody in the world is dedicated to saving the planet, there can’t be many (outside of cheesy movies) who want to actively destroy it. After all, even those who have no interest in recycling, freecycling, upcycling, or just cycling don’t look at all of those practices and try to think of ways to reverse the good they do. We are all at least somewhat eager to protect the land we live on.

Lately, we have been seeing an increase in products that are eco-friendly to cater to this desire without any real effort involved by the user. An interesting shift in priority from industries that were once the worse offenders.

Take, for example, the cosmetic industry. Once upon a time, they were horrific violators of the planet and the creatures on it. Products were often made by testing on animals, and even now you have to check the bottle to make sure it is cruelty free. Not to mention how many products have animal parts in them, like used oil from restaurants that cooked meats, ground fish scales, chicken bone marrow, and even semen and placenta from bulls and cows.

Seriously.

Yes, it can be hard to live an environmentally responsible and guilt-free life when so many products have such ingredients in them and we don’t even know it. Which is why it is crucial to know what products are really eco-friendly out there. What products can you believe in?

NVEY Organic

NVEY Organic

Launched back in 2005, NVEY has been dedicated to providing green, natural, and organic cosmetics to customers without any worries of what impact they might be having on the environment. According to lifecell-anti-aging.com, they have foundations, concealers, bronzers, blushes, powders, lipsticks, eyeshadows, eyeliners, and more. Plus, some really great gift sets so you can get your friends and family on the train to green beauty, as well. Everything is certified organic, so no false claims here.

Josie Maran Cosmetics

Josie Maran Cosmetics

Model and former Dancing With The Stars contestant Josie Maran has always been very passionate about the environment and responsible consumerism. So, in 2006, she teamed up with Skin Deep, a project dedicated to safe cosmetics free of questionable ingredients. Launching her own product line, she sells various makeup items, skin care items, Argan oil, and products for pregnant mothers to deal with things like stretch marks. Her stuff is a little pricey, but high quality.

Physicians Formula Organic Wear

Physicians Formula Organic Wear

Anyone who has sensitive skin has probably used Physicians Formula products at some point. Gentle on the face and without so many harmful chemicals and ingredients found in other lines, it has been held up as a standard for years. But their Organic Wear line is really special. Completely natural, certified organic, and cruelty free, you can feel good about buying it. They have mascara, foundation, powder, concealer, moisturizer, and more.

Lavera

Lavera

Everything from Lavera is 100% natural and eco-friendly. Which makes it a very useful resource for finding either organic or vegan products for skin, makeup, and basic beauty products like haircare. They even sell sunscreen, bath washes, and more. They don’t have a clearance section now, but they move all of their overstock for sale on their partner site. So you can still get stuff up to 90% off.

Ecco Bella

Ecco Bella

This is a personal favorite of mine for skin care products. They have anti-blemish creams and whole skin care kits available, as well as a great deal of makeup, lotions, hair care, fragrances, room mists, and more. I always keep an eye on their specials, which can give you great deals on some of their best products.

Living Nature

Living Nature

Based in New Zealand, shipping internationally can be an issue. But for those nearby, this is the perfect natural cosmetics store. Everything they make is incredibly unique and many ingredients are locally harvester. According to genf20plus.com, they use a great deal of Manuka honey and oil in their products. You can shop by skin type, and there is a special product line for men.

Alima Pure

Alima Pure

I have noticed that a lot of makeup brushes use either animal hair (such as from horses), or non-biodegradable plastic fibers and handles. Neither of which are good for the planet, nor very good for your skin. These brushes use recycled wood handles and biodegradable fibers for softer, more responsible brushes.

Do you have a product line you love that is good for the environment? Let us know in the comments!
