Bob Barker & PETA Say Don't Visit Sea World {VIDEO}

Bob Barker, working with well-known and sometimes controversial animal activist organization PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), has called Sea World a “sad exhibit” and is encouraging people not to visit it.

The two have teamed up to create the TV ad featured in the video above.

“Life in cramped tanks is no prize for orcas and dolphins,” the former TV show host says.

“The bright, social marine animals at SeaWorld are denied everything that is natural and important to them. Orcas are intelligent predators who, in the wild, work cooperatively, engage in complex relationships, and swim up to 100 miles every day,” PETA writes.

“Many orcas held captive at SeaWorld were taken from their ocean homes and family pods and are now forced to swim in endless circles inside small, barren concrete tanks. Captive orcas live far short of their natural 60-year life expectancy. At least 23 orcas have died in U.S. SeaWorld facilities since 1986—and not one died of old age.”

I used to wonder if Sea World and other similar places were really as bad as activist organizations made them out to be — I mean, if you ever visit such a place, the guides talk so lovingly about the animals, and everyone is smiling. But, the more I’ve learned about such places — how the animals arrive there (or don’t arrive there), how they are treated, the conditions they live in (compared to what would they would prefer) — the more I think that such places should really go out of business. These are not good places for animals.

“Be a winner for animals by going to the beach instead of to Sea World or any other such sad exhibit” Bob Barker advises. And I second that!

PETA’s got a number of “vacation hot-spot ideas” for you that are much more animal-friendly!

You can also take action here and help imprisoned Sea World animals by writing a letter to Sea World owner The Blackstone Group asking it to “immediately set into motion a plan to release its marine animals into sanctuaries that can provide them with a more natural environment.”

Take action today!

  1. I explained to my eight year old girl recently why I haven’t accompanied her to Sea World when her Grammie. She says when she’s president she is going to do something about it. I told her she didn’t have to wait that long.
