Joplin, Missouri to Get Hit with More Tornadoes Today?

Joplin, Missouri has been hit with some of the wildest weather this week already. 116 have been found dead after a tornado slammed the city of approximately 50,000. Unfortunately, more tornadoes could be on the way today.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 45% chance of another tornado outbreak today, especially between about 4:00pm and midnight. Other than Missouri, this possibility is for parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Nebraska.

One extreme weather expert has proclaimed that the severe weather is not over, “not by a long shot,” MSNBC reports.

It’s hard for residents of Joplin to imagine another tornado outbreak, still in shock from the first.

“Everybody’s going to know people who are dead,” said Joplin resident Zach Tusinger, whose aunt and uncle died from a tornado. “You could have probably dropped a nuclear bomb on the town and I don’t think it would have done near as much damage as it did.”

“I think the more time that goes by, the more I feel sick about it,” lifelong Joplin resident Sarah Hale said today. “These people are cold and sick and stuck. As the days go on, and the death toll goes up, how many funerals are we going to go to?”

Joplin, MO city blocks flattened.

Hard to comprehend. Harder to suffer through….

“There’s no way to figure out how to pick up the pieces as is,” Hale said. “We have to have faith the weather will change.”

The search continues for many more residents, even in treacherous weather. The city’s first two responders were actually struck by lightning, but that hasn’t held up rescue efforts. People are suffering and need help now. “We hope that there are people alive. We have a number of apartment buildings, complexes that are almost completely flattened. So we anticipate finding more people, and hopefully we’ll get there in time to find them alive,” Joplin Mayor Mike Woolston said.

The destruction is horryfing.

Obama has sent in a ton of federal relief and said “we are going to be here for the long haul.” Good thing we have such federal response options….

Joplin, Missouri destruction everywhere.

All I can do is wish the best for the people of Joplin and other areas of the world getting hit with extreme weather, do my best to educate people on the concerns of global weirding so that fewer people have to suffer through such extreme weather events, and promote greener living and government policies. Hope you can do the same.
