Go Microhydro (Going Green Tip #10)

The book on mycrohydro power.

As discussed in previous articles, a great way to go green is to cut the coal and a great way to do that is to go solar. There are other clean energy options available for homes and businesses as well, though.

One such option is microhydro. In other words, “small” hydroelectric power facilities.

While microhydro may not be an option for everyone, it is one very good and often unconsidered option for some. In fact, for those who have the capability of getting electricity from microhydro, it can even be the most cost-effective renewable energy option.

I wrote an article a few weeks ago on a new microhydro book that is essentially THE book to buy if you are interested in this option or interested in learning more about it. Of course, I would recommend checking that out.

The thing about microhydro is that your options range quite a lot and you need to determine the best choice for your location. In other words, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all microhydro option. The book referenced above is great for a variety of reasons, but one big reason is that it is filled with real-world microhydro case studies from around the world and you can look at and compare case studies of projects located in similar places as your own.

If you’re not interested in going solar,.. or even if you are but would like to make sure you look into all your clean energy options first, be sure to check out the possibility of implementing a microhydro project on your property.
