47 year-old-grandmother Not Allowed to Buy Wine
A supermarket chain has apologised to a grandmother of two for refusing to allow her to buy a bottle of wine because she could not prove she was over 18.
Tina MacNaughton-Jones, 47, from Worthing, West Sussex at first thought the checkout assistant was joking when she asked her for proof of age at the Waitrose store in the town’s High Street.
When she realised she was being serious, Ms MacNaughton-Jones’s 22-year-old daughter Fiona tried to buy the red wine on her behalf and showed the assistant her own identification, but she too was refused service in case she gave the bottle to her mother, the Brighton Argus reported.
